Allah Most High said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī١٨٧ - باب فضل الصلوات
١٨٧ - باب فضل الصلوات
Recite, [O Muḥammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allāh is greater. And Allāh knows that which you do.

On the authority of Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "What do you think — if there were a river at the door of one of you in which he bathed five times each day, would any of his grime remain?" They said: "None of his grime would remain." He said: "That is the likeness of the five prayers: by them Allah wipes away sins." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).
وعن جابرٍ - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسول الله - ﷺ: «مَثَلُ الصَّلَواتِ الخَمْسِ كَمَثَلِ نَهْرٍ جَارٍ غَمْرٍ عَلَى بَابِ أحَدِكُمْ يَغْتَسِلُ مِنْهُ كُلَّ يَومٍ خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ». رواه مسلم. «الغَمْرُ» بفتح الغين المعجمة: الكثير.
On the authority of Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The likeness of the five prayers is like a deep, flowing river at the door of one of you in which he bathes five times each day." Muslim narrated it. The word "al-ghamr", with a fatḥa on the dotted ghayn, means abundant.
وعن ابن مسعود - ﵁: أنَّ رَجُلًا أصَابَ مِن امْرَأَةٍ قُبْلَةً، فَأتَى النبيَّ - ﷺ - فَأخْبَرَهُ فَأنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى: ﴿أَقِمِ الصَّلاَةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، إنَّ الحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ﴾ [هود: ١١٤] فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ أَلِيَ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: «لِجَمِيعِ أُمَّتِي كُلِّهِمْ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
On the authority of Ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him): that a man took a kiss from a woman, then came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him about it. So Allah Most High revealed: "And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and in the early hours of the night. Indeed, good deeds drive away evil deeds" [Hūd: 114]. The man said: "Is this for me?" He said: "For my whole community, all of them." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).
وعن أَبي هريرة - ﵁: أنَّ رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «الصَّلَوَاتُ الخَمْسُ، وَالجُمُعَةُ إِلَى الجُمُعَةِ، كَفَّارَةٌ لِمَا بَيْنَهُنَّ، مَا لَمْ تُغشَ الكَبَائِرُ». رواه مسلم.
On the authority of Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The five daily prayers, and one Friday prayer to the next, are an expiation for whatever falls between them, so long as major sins are not committed." Muslim narrated it.
وعن عثمان بن عفان - ﵁ - قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رسول الله - ﷺ - يقول: «مَا مِنْ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ تَحْضُرُهُ صَلاَةٌ مَكْتُوبَةٌ فَيُحْسِنُ وُضُوءَها؛ وَخُشُوعَهَا، وَرُكُوعَهَا، إِلاَّ كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لِمَا قَبْلَهَا مِنَ الذُّنُوب مَا لَمْ تُؤتَ كَبِيرةٌ، وَذلِكَ الدَّهْرَ كُلَّهُ». رواه مسلم.
On the authority of ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "There is no Muslim for whom a prescribed prayer falls due, then he performs its ablution, its humble submission, and its bowing well, but that it becomes an expiation for the sins that preceded it, so long as no major sin is committed — and that holds for all time." Muslim narrated it.
