Hadith1132

- ﵁ - - ﷺ -

From ʿAlī (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "The witr is not an absolute obligation like the prescribed prayer, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made it a sunnah. He said: 'Indeed Allah is Witr (One) and loves the witr, so perform the witr, O people of the Qur'an.'" Narrated by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who said: "A good (ḥasan) hadith."

Hadith1133

﵂، - ﷺ -

And from ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: "At every part of the night the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the witr — at the beginning of the night, in the middle of it, and at the end of it; and his witr came to an end at the time just before dawn (saḥar)." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

Hadith1134

﵄، - ﷺ -

And from Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: "Make the last of your prayer at night the witr." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

Hadith1135

وعن أَبي سعيد الخدري - ﵁: أنَّ النَّبيَّ - ﷺ - قَالَ: «أوْتِرُوا قَبْلَ أَنْ تُصْبِحُوا». رواه مسلم.

And from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform the witr before you reach the morning." Narrated by Muslim.

Hadith1136

وعن عائشة ﵂: أنَّ النَّبيَّ - ﷺ - كَانَ يُصَلِّي صَلاَتَهُ باللَّيْلِ، وَهِيَ مُعْتَرِضَةٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، فَإذَا بَقِيَ الوِتْرُ، أيْقَظَهَا فَأوْتَرتْ. رواه مسلم. وفي روايةٍ لَهُ: فَإذَا بَقِيَ الوِتْرُ، قَالَ: «قُومِي فَأوتِري يَا عائِشَةُ».

And from ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her): that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform his night prayer while she lay stretched out before him; and when only the witr remained, he would wake her and she would perform the witr. Narrated by Muslim. In another narration of his: when only the witr remained, he would say: "Get up and perform the witr, O ʿĀʾishah."

Hadith1137

وعن ابن عمرَ ﵄: أنَّ النَّبيَّ - ﷺ - قَالَ: «بَادِرُوا الصُّبْحَ بِالوِتْرِ». رواه أَبُو داود والترمذي، وقال: «حديث حسن صحيح» .

And from Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both): that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform the witr before the dawn overtakes you." Narrated by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who said: "A good and sound (ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ) hadith."

Hadith1138

وعن جابر - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسولُ الله - ﷺ: «مَنْ خَافَ أَنْ لاَ يَقُومَ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ، فَلْيُوتِرْ أوَّلَهُ، وَمَنْ طَمِعَ أَنْ يَقُومَ آخِرَهُ فَلْيُوتِرْ آخِرَ اللَّيلِ، فَإنَّ صَلاَةَ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ مَشْهُودَةٌ، وذَلِكَ أفْضَلُ». رواه مسلم.

And from Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever fears that he will not rise at the end of the night, let him perform the witr at its beginning; and whoever is confident that he will rise at its end, let him perform the witr at the end of the night, for the prayer at the end of the night is witnessed (attended by the angels), and that is more excellent." Narrated by Muslim.
