Allah the Exalted said:

Ayah4:85

Whoever intercedes for a good cause will have a share [i.e., reward] therefrom; and whoever intercedes for an evil cause will have a portion [i.e., burden] therefrom. And ever is Allāh, over all things, a Keeper.1

Hadith246

- ﵁ - - ﷺ -

On the authority of Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: Whenever someone came to the Prophet ﷺ seeking to have a need met, he would turn to those sitting with him and say, "Intercede and you will be rewarded, and Allah will decree upon the tongue of His Prophet whatever He loves." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim). And in another narration: "whatever He wills."

Hadith247

وعن ابن عباس ﵄ في قِصَّةِ برِيرَةَ وَزَوْجِهَا، قَالَ: قَالَ لَهَا النَّبيُّ - ﷺ: «لَوْ رَاجَعْتِهِ؟» قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ تَأمُرُنِي؟ قَالَ: «إنَّمَا أَشْفَع» قَالَتْ: لاَ حَاجَةَ لِي فِيهِ. رواه البخاري.

On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both), concerning the story of Barīrah and her husband, he said: The Prophet ﷺ said to her, "Would you take him back?" She said, "O Messenger of Allah, are you commanding me?" He said, "I am only interceding." She said, "I have no need for him." Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
