١٦١ - باب الدعاء للميت بعد دفنه والقعود عند قبره ساعة للدعاء له والاستغفار والقراءة

And from Abū ʿAmr — also said to be Abū ʿAbd Allāh, and also said to be Abū Laylā — ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: When the Prophet ﷺ had finished burying the dead, he would stand over him and say: «Seek forgiveness for your brother and ask that he be made steadfast, for he is now being questioned.» Narrated by Abū Dāwūd.

And from ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: When you have buried me, remain around my grave for the length of time it takes to slaughter a camel and distribute its meat, so that I may take comfort in your presence and know what answer I shall give to the messengers of my Lord. Narrated by Muslim. It has already been related in full. Al-Shāfiʿī (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It is recommended that something of the Qurʾān be recited beside him, and if they complete the entire Qurʾān beside him, that would be excellent.
