رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٣٢٨ - باب كراهة التقعير في الكلام والتشدق فيه وتكلف الفصاحة واستعمال وحشي اللغة ودقائق الإعراب في مخاطبة العوام ونحوهم
On the authority of Ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The hair-splitting extremists are ruined" — he said it three times. Narrated by Muslim. "Al-mutanaṭṭiʿūn" are those who go to excess in matters.
On the authority of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ (may Allah be pleased with them both): that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Allah detests the affectedly eloquent man who rolls his tongue [around his words] as a cow rolls [its tongue around its cud]." Narrated by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who said: "A good hadith."
On the authority of Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh (may Allah be pleased with them both): that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Among the dearest of you to me, and the closest of you to me in seating on the Day of Resurrection, are those of you with the best character. And among the most hateful of you to me, and the furthest of you from me on the Day of Resurrection, are the chatterers, the boastful talkers, and the pompous, long-winded ones." Narrated by al-Tirmidhī, who said: "A good hadith." Its explanation has already preceded in the Chapter on Good Character.
