١٤٥ - باب ما يدعى به للمريض

From ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her): when a person complained of some ailment, or had a sore or a wound, the Prophet ﷺ would say with his finger like this — Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, the narrator, placed his forefinger on the ground and then raised it — and he said: “In the name of Allah, the dust of our earth, with the saliva of some of us, that our sick one may be healed, by the permission of our Lord.” Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

And from her (ʿĀʾishah): the Prophet ﷺ used to visit some of his family, wiping (the sick person) with his right hand and saying: “O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm; heal, for You are the Healer; there is no healing but Your healing — a healing that leaves behind no sickness.” Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

And from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said to Thābit (may Allah have mercy on him): “Shall I not recite over you the ruqyah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” He said: “Yes.” He said: “O Allah, Lord of mankind, Remover of harm, heal, for You are the Healer; there is no healer but You — a healing that leaves behind no sickness.” Narrated by al-Bukhārī.

And from Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited me (in my illness) and said: “O Allah, heal Saʿd; O Allah, heal Saʿd; O Allah, heal Saʿd.” Narrated by Muslim.

And from Abū ʿAbdillāh ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ (may Allah be pleased with him): that he complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of a pain he felt in his body. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: “Place your hand on the part of your body that pains you and say ‘Bismillāh’ three times, and say seven times: ‘I seek refuge in the might of Allah and His power from the evil of what I find and dread.’” Narrated by Muslim.

And from Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “Whoever visits a sick person whose appointed time has not yet come, and says in his presence seven times: ‘I ask Allah the Magnificent, Lord of the Magnificent Throne, to heal you,’ Allah will cure him of that illness.” Narrated by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who said: “A good (ḥasan) hadith”; and al-Ḥākim said: “A sound (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī.”

And from him (Ibn ʿAbbās): that the Prophet ﷺ entered upon a Bedouin to visit him; and whenever he entered upon one whom he was visiting, he would say: “No harm; (it is) a purification, Allah willing.” Narrated by al-Bukhārī.

And from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī (may Allah be pleased with him): that Jibrīl came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Muḥammad, have you fallen ill?” He said: “Yes.” He said: “In the name of Allah I recite over you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye; may Allah heal you; in the name of Allah I recite over you.” Narrated by Muslim.

And from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī and Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with them both): that the two of them bore witness concerning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said: “Whoever says, ‘There is no god but Allah, and Allah is greatest,’ his Lord affirms him and says: ‘There is no god but Me, and I am greatest.’ And when he says, ‘There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner,’ He says — meaning, He says: ‘There is no god but Me alone, I have no partner.’ And when he says, ‘There is no god but Allah; His is the dominion and His is the praise,’ He says: ‘There is no god but Me; Mine is the dominion and Mine is the praise.’ And when he says, ‘There is no god but Allah, and there is no might nor power except by Allah,’ He says: ‘There is no god but Me, and there is no might nor power except by Me.’” And he used to say: “Whoever says it in his illness then dies, the Fire shall not consume him.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhī, who said: “A good (ḥasan) hadith.”
