١١٤ - باب بيان جواز الشرب قائما وبيان أن الأكمل والأفضل الشرب قاعدا

Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I gave the Prophet ﷺ water to drink from Zamzam, and he drank while standing. Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

Al-Nazzāl ibn Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: ʿAlī (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the gate of the Raḥbah and drank while standing, then said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do just as you have seen me do. Narrated by al-Bukhārī.

Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: In the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we used to eat while walking and drink while standing. Narrated by al-Tirmidhī, who said: a good and sound hadith.

ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb related from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ drinking both while standing and while sitting. Narrated by al-Tirmidhī, who said: a good and sound hadith.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported from the Prophet ﷺ that he forbade a man to drink while standing. Qatādah said: We said to Anas: And what about eating? He said: That is worse — or fouler. Narrated by Muslim. In another report from him: that the Prophet ﷺ sternly forbade drinking while standing.

Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Let none of you drink while standing; and whoever forgets, let him make himself vomit." Narrated by Muslim.
