232 — Chapter on spiritual retreat (iʿtikāf) during Ramadan.
From Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to observe spiritual retreat (iʿtikāf) during the last ten days of Ramadan. Agreed upon.
And from ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her): that the Prophet ﷺ used to observe spiritual retreat (iʿtikāf) during the last ten days of Ramadan, until Allah the Exalted took him [in death]; then his wives observed the retreat after him. Agreed upon.
And from Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet ﷺ used to observe spiritual retreat (iʿtikāf) for ten days every Ramadan; but when the year came in which he was taken [in death], he observed the retreat for twenty days. Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
