Allah, the Most High, said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٢٠ - باب في الدلالة على خير والدعاء إلى هدى أو ضلالة
٢٠ - باب في الدلالة على خير والدعاء إلى هدى أو ضلالة
And never let them avert you from the verses of Allāh after they have been revealed to you. And invite [people] to your Lord. And never be of those who associate others with Allāh.
And He, the Most High, said:
ٱدْعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلْحِكْمَةِ وَٱلْمَوْعِظَةِ ٱلْحَسَنَةِ ۖ وَجَـٰدِلْهُم بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ ۖ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.
وَقالَ تَعَالَى:
And He, the Most High, said:
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تُحِلُّوا۟ شَعَـٰٓئِرَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا ٱلشَّهْرَ ٱلْحَرَامَ وَلَا ٱلْهَدْىَ وَلَا ٱلْقَلَـٰٓئِدَ وَلَآ ءَآمِّينَ ٱلْبَيْتَ ٱلْحَرَامَ يَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَرِضْوَٰنًا ۚ وَإِذَا حَلَلْتُمْ فَٱصْطَادُوا۟ ۚ وَلَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شَنَـَٔانُ قَوْمٍ أَن صَدُّوكُمْ عَنِ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ أَن تَعْتَدُوا۟ ۘ وَتَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ
O you who have believed, do not violate the rites of Allāh or [the sanctity of] the sacred month or [neglect the marking of] the sacrificial animals and garlanding [them] or [violate the safety of] those coming to the Sacred House seeking bounty from their Lord and [His] approval. But when you come out of iḥrām, then [you may] hunt. And do not let the hatred of a people for having obstructed you from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām lead you to transgress. And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allāh; indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.
وَقالَ تَعَالَى:
And He, the Most High, said:
وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong,1 and those will be the successful.
وعن أَبي مسعود عُقبةَ بنِ عمرو الأنصاري البدري - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسولُ الله - ﷺ: «مَنْ دَلَّ عَلَى خَيْرٍ فَلَهُ مِثْلُ أجْرِ فَاعِلِهِ». رواه مسلم.
And from Abu Mas'ud 'Uqbah ibn 'Amr al-Ansari al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever guides another to something good will have a reward like that of the one who does it." Narrated by Muslim.
وعن أَبي هريرة - ﵁: أنَّ رَسُول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «مَنْ دَعَا إِلَى هُدَىً، كَانَ لَهُ مِنَ الأَجْرِ مِثْلُ أجُورِ مَنْ تَبِعَه، لاَ يَنْقُصُ ذلِكَ مِنْ أجُورِهمْ شَيئًا، وَمَنْ دَعَا إِلَى ضَلاَلَةٍ، كَانَ عَلَيهِ مِنَ الإثْمِ مِثْلُ آثَامِ مَنْ تَبِعَهُ، لاَ يَنْقُصُ ذلِكَ مِنْ آثَامِهِمْ شَيئًا». رواه مسلم.
And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward like the rewards of those who follow him, without that diminishing anything from their rewards; and whoever calls to misguidance will bear sin like the sins of those who follow him, without that diminishing anything from their sins." Narrated by Muslim.
وعن أَبي العباس سهل بن سعد الساعدي - ﵁: أنَّ رَسُول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ يوم خَيبَر: «لأُعْطِيَنَّ الرَّايَةَ غَدًا رجلًا يَفْتَحُ الله عَلَى يَدَيهِ، يُحبُّ اللهَ وَرَسولَهُ، ويُحِبُّهُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ»، فَبَاتَ النَّاسُ يَدُوكُونَ لَيْلَتَهُمْ أيُّهُمْ يُعْطَاهَا. فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ النَّاسُ غَدَوْا عَلَى رسولِ الله - ﷺ - كُلُّهُمْ يَرْجُو أَنْ يُعْطَاهَا. فَقَالَ: «أينَ عَلِيُّ ابنُ أَبي طالب؟» فقيلَ: يَا رسولَ الله، هُوَ يَشْتَكي عَيْنَيهِ. قَالَ: «فَأَرْسِلُوا إِلَيْه» فَأُتِيَ بِهِ فَبَصَقَ رسولُ الله - ﷺ - في عَيْنَيْهِ، وَدَعَا لَهُ فَبَرِىءَ حَتَّى كَأَنْ لَمْ يكُن بِهِ وَجَعٌ، فأَعْطاهُ الرَّايَةَ. فقَالَ عَليٌّ - ﵁: يَا رَسُول اللهِ، أُقاتِلُهمْ حَتَّى يَكُونُوا مِثْلَنَا؟ فَقَالَ: «انْفُذْ عَلَى رِسْلِكَ حَتَّى تَنْزِلَ بسَاحَتهِمْ، ثُمَّ ادْعُهُمْ إِلَى الإسْلاَمِ، وَأَخْبِرْهُمْ بِمَا يَجِبُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ حَقِّ اللهِ تَعَالَى فِيهِ، فَوَالله لأَنْ يَهْدِيَ اللهُ بِكَ رَجُلًا وَاحِدًا خَيرٌ لَكَ مِنْ حُمْرِ النَّعَم». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيهِ. قوله: «يَدُوكُونَ»: أي يَخُوضُونَ وَيَتَحَدَّثُونَ. وقوله: «رِسْلِكَ» بكسر الراءِ وبفتحها لغتانِ، والكسر أفصح.
And from Abu al-'Abbas Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of Khaybar: "I shall certainly give the banner tomorrow to a man through whose hands Allah will grant victory; he loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him." So the people spent their night debating which of them would be given it. When the people awoke, they went early to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), each of them hoping to be given it. He said: "Where is Ali ibn Abi Talib?" It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, he is suffering from his eyes." He said: "Then send for him." So he was brought, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spat into his eyes and supplicated for him, whereupon he recovered as though he had never had any ailment, and he gave him the banner. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall I fight them until they become like us?" He said: "Proceed at your ease until you reach their open ground, then call them to Islam and inform them of what is obligatory upon them of the right of Allah, the Most High, therein. For by Allah, that Allah should guide a single man through you is better for you than red camels." Agreed upon (by al-Bukhari and Muslim). His saying "yadukun" means they were debating and talking it over. And his saying "rislik" — with a kasra on the ra or with a fatha — are two dialectal forms, and the kasra is the more eloquent.
وعن أنس - ﵁: أن فتىً مِنْ أسلم، قَالَ: يَا رَسُول الله، إنِّي أُرِيدُ الغَزْوَ وَلَيْسَ معِي مَا أتَجَهَّز بِهِ، قَالَ: «ائتِ فُلاَنًا فإنَّهُ قَدْ كَانَ تَجَهَّزَ فَمَرِضَ» فَأتَاهُ، فَقَالَ: إنَّ رسولَ الله - ﷺ - يُقْرِئُكَ السَّلامَ، وَيَقُولُ: أعْطني الَّذِي تَجَهَّزْتَ بِهِ، فَقَالَ: يَا فُلاَنَةُ، أعْطِيهِ الَّذِي تَجَهَّزْتُ بِهِ، وَلا تَحْبِسي مِنْهُ شَيئًا، فَواللهِ لاَ تَحْبِسِين مِنْهُ شَيئًا فَيُبَاركَ لَكِ فِيهِ. رواه مسلم.
And from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): that a young man of [the tribe of] Aslam said: "O Messenger of Allah, I wish to go on a military expedition, but I do not have with me what to equip myself with." He said: "Go to so-and-so, for he had equipped himself but then fell ill." So he went to him and said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) conveys his greeting of peace to you and says: Give me what you equipped yourself with." He said: "O so-and-so [wife], give him what I equipped myself with, and do not withhold anything of it; for by Allah, you shall not withhold anything of it, so that it may be blessed for you." Narrated by Muslim.
