Allah the Exalted said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٢٢٧ - باب تحريم الغدر
٢٢٧ - باب تحريم الغدر
O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts.1 Lawful for you are the animals of grazing livestock except for that which is recited to you [in this Qur’ān] - hunting not being permitted while you are in the state of iḥrām.2 Indeed, Allāh ordains what He intends.
And the Exalted said:
وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ مَالَ ٱلْيَتِيمِ إِلَّا بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ حَتَّىٰ يَبْلُغَ أَشُدَّهُۥ ۚ وَأَوْفُوا۟ بِٱلْعَهْدِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْـُٔولًا
And do not approach the property of an orphan, except in the way that is best,1 until he reaches maturity. And fulfill [every] commitment. Indeed, the commitment is ever [that about which one will be] questioned.
وعن عبد الله بن عمرو بن العاص ﵄: أنَّ رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «أرْبَعٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ كَانَ مُنافِقًا خَالِصًا، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ كَانَ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ حَتَّى يَدَعَها: إِذَا اؤْتُمِنَ خَانَ، وَإِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ، وَإِذَا عَاهَدَ غَدَرَ، وَإِذَا خَاصَمَ فَجَرَ». متفق عَلَيْهِ.
ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ (may Allah be pleased with them) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There are four traits: whoever has them is a pure hypocrite, and whoever has one of them has in him a trait of hypocrisy until he abandons it: when entrusted, he betrays; when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a covenant, he is treacherous; and when he disputes, he is foul." Agreed upon.
وعن ابن مسعودٍ، وابن عمر، وأنس - ﵃ - قالوا: قَالَ النَّبيّ - ﷺ: «لِكُلِّ غادِرٍ لِواءٌ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ، يُقَالُ: هذِهِ غَدْرَةُ فلانٍ». متفق عَلَيْهِ.
Ibn Masʿūd, Ibn ʿUmar, and Anas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: The Prophet ﷺ said: "For every treacherous one there is a banner on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said: This is the treachery of so-and-so." Agreed upon.
وعن أَبي سعيدٍ الخدريّ - ﵁: أنَّ النبيَّ - ﷺ - قَالَ: «لِكُلِّ غَادِرٍ لِوَاءٌ عِنْدَ اسْتِهِ يومَ القِيَامَةِ يُرْفَعُ لَهُ بِقَدَرِ غَدْرِهِ، ألاَ وَلاَ غَادِرَ أعْظَمُ غَدْرًا مِنْ أمِيرِ عَامَّةٍ». رواه مسلم.
Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: "For every treacherous one there is a banner at his backside on the Day of Resurrection, raised for him in proportion to his treachery. Behold, there is no traitor greater in treachery than a ruler over the people at large." Narrated by Muslim.
وعن أَبي هريرة - ﵁ - عن النبيّ - ﷺ - قَالَ: «قَالَ الله تَعَالَى: ثَلاَثَةٌ أنا خَصْمُهُمْ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ: رَجُلٌ أعْطَى بي ثُمَّ غَدَرَ، وَرَجُلٌ بَاعَ حُرًّا فَأَكَلَ ثَمَنَهُ، وَرَجُلٌ اسْتَأجَرَ أجيرًا، فَاسْتَوْفَى مِنْهُ، وَلَمْ يُعْطِهِ أجْرَهُ». رواه البخاري.
Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) reported from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: "Allah the Exalted said: There are three whose adversary I shall be on the Day of Resurrection: a man who gave a pledge by Me then proved treacherous; a man who sold a free person and consumed his price; and a man who hired a labourer, took the full work from him, yet did not give him his wage." Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
