١٠٧ - باب الأمر بالأكل من جانب القصعة والنهي عن الأكل من وسطها

On the authority of Ibn ʻAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “Blessing descends in the middle of the food, so eat from its edges and do not eat from its middle.” Narrated by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who said: “A good and sound hadith.”

On the authority of ʻAbd Allāh ibn Busr (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet ﷺ had a large bowl called al-Gharrāʾ, which four men would carry. When they had entered the forenoon and prayed the Ḍuḥā prayer, that bowl was brought — that is, with tharīd (crumbled bread soaked in broth) heaped in it — and they gathered around it. When they grew many, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ knelt. A bedouin said: “What is this manner of sitting?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Indeed Allah has made me a noble servant, and He has not made me an obstinate tyrant.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Eat from its sides and leave its top, so that it may be blessed.” Narrated by Abū Dāwūd with a good chain. “Its top” (dhirwatuhā) means its highest part; the dhāl may be vowelled with kasrah or ḍammah.
