From Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever keeps a dog — except a dog for hunting or for livestock — two qīrāṭ are deducted from his reward each day." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). And in a narration: "one qīrāṭ."
From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever keeps a dog — a qīrāṭ is deducted from his deeds each day — except a dog for tillage or livestock." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). And in a narration of Muslim: "Whoever keeps a dog that is not a dog for hunting, nor for livestock, nor for land, then two qīrāṭ are deducted from his reward each day."
