It — that is, envy — is wishing for the removal of a blessing from the one who possesses it, whether it be a blessing of religion or of worldly life. Allah the Exalted said:
٢٧٠ - باب تحريم الحسد
It — that is, envy — is wishing for the removal of a blessing from the one who possesses it, whether it be a blessing of religion or of worldly life. Allah the Exalted said:
Or do they envy people for what Allāh has given them of His bounty? But We had already given the family of Abraham the Scripture and wisdom1 and conferred upon them a great kingdom.
And concerning it is the hadith of Anas mentioned earlier, in the chapter before it.
It is related from Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Beware of envy, for envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes firewood" — or he said: "grass." Reported by Abū Dāwūd.
