٢١١ - باب استحباب سجود الشكر عند حصول نعمة ظاهرة أو اندفاع بلية ظاهرة

From Saʿd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from Mecca, heading for Medina. When we were near ʿAzwarāʾ, he dismounted, then raised his hands and supplicated to Allah for a while. Then he fell down in prostration and remained [there] a long time. Then he stood up and raised his hands for a while, then fell down in prostration — he did this three times — and said: "I asked my Lord and interceded for my nation, and He granted me a third of my nation, so I fell down in prostration to my Lord out of gratitude. Then I raised my head and asked my Lord for my nation, and He granted me a third of my nation, so I fell down in prostration to my Lord out of gratitude. Then I raised my head and asked my Lord for my nation, and He granted me the remaining third, so I fell down in prostration to my Lord." Narrated by Abu Dawud.
