Ayah38:86

Say, [O Muḥammad], "I do not ask you for it [i.e., the Qur’ān] any payment, and I am not of the pretentious.

- ﵁ - - ﷺ: ٨٦].

Masrūq said: We entered upon ʿAbd Allah ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: O people, whoever knows something, let him speak of it; and whoever does not know, let him say: Allah knows best — for it is part of knowledge to say, regarding what one does not know: Allah knows best. Allah, the Exalted, said to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Say: I ask you no reward for it, nor am I of those who pretend." [Ṣād: 86]. Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
