٥٨ - باب جواز الأخذ من غير مسألة ولا تطلع إليه

On the authority of Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar, from his father ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar, from ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to give me a gift, and I would say: "Give it to someone who is more in need of it than I am." So he said: "Take it. When something of this wealth comes to you while you are not craving it nor begging, then take it and make it your own property; then if you wish, consume it, and if you wish, give it away in charity; but whatever does not [come to you in this way], do not let your soul yearn after it." Sālim said: So ʿAbd Allah [ibn ʿUmar] would never ask anyone for anything, nor refuse anything he was given. Agreed upon. (Mushrif): with the dotted shīn — that is, one who eagerly cranes towards it.
