Chapter: The dislikedness of singling out the day of Jumuʿah for fasting, or its night for [special] prayer, apart from the other nights.
On the authority of Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (ﷺ), who said: "Do not single out the night of Jumuʿah for [night] prayer apart from the other nights, and do not single out the day of Jumuʿah for fasting apart from the other days, unless it falls within a fast that one of you [habitually] observes." Narrated by Muslim.
On his authority [Abū Hurayrah], who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "Let none of you fast on the day of Jumuʿah unless [he also fasts] a day before it or a day after it." Agreed upon.
On the authority of Muḥammad ibn ʿAbbād, who said: I asked Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him): "Did the Prophet (ﷺ) forbid fasting on Jumuʿah?" He said: "Yes." Agreed upon.
On the authority of the Mother of the Believers Juwayriyah bint al-Ḥārith (may Allah be pleased with her): that the Prophet (ﷺ) entered upon her on a Friday while she was fasting, and he said: "Did you fast yesterday?" She said: "No." He said: "Do you intend to fast tomorrow?" She said: "No." He said: "Then break your fast." Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
