Allah, Most High, said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٢١٠ - باب فضل يوم الجمعة ووجوبها والاغتسال لها والطيب والتبكير إليها والدعاء يوم الجمعة والصلاة على النبي - ﷺ - وفيه بيان ساعة الإجابة واستحباب إكثار ذكر الله تعالى بعد الجمعة
٢١٠ - باب فضل يوم الجمعة ووجوبها والاغتسال لها والطيب والتبكير إليها والدعاء يوم الجمعة والصلاة على النبي - ﷺ - وفيه بيان ساعة الإجابة واستحباب إكثار ذكر الله تعالى بعد الجمعة
And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allāh, and remember Allāh often that you may succeed.
- ﵁ - - ﷺ:
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday: on it Adam was created, on it he was admitted into Paradise, and on it he was expelled from it." Narrated by Muslim.
وعنه، قَالَ: قَالَ رسول الله - ﷺ: «مَنْ تَوَضَّأ فَأَحْسَنَ الوُضُوءَ ثُمَّ أتَى الجُمُعَةَ، فَاسْتَمَعَ وأنْصَتَ، غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الجُمُعَةِ وَزِيادَةُ ثَلاَثَةِ أيَّامٍ، وَمَنْ مَسَّ الحَصَى، فَقَدْ لَغَا». رواه مسلم.
And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever performs ablution and does it well, then comes to the Friday prayer, listens attentively and remains silent, will be forgiven what is between him and the next Friday, and three days more. And whoever touches the pebbles has engaged in idle conduct." Narrated by Muslim.
وعنه، عن النبيِّ - ﷺ - قَالَ: «الصَّلَوَاتُ الخَمْسُ، وَالجُمُعَةُ إِلَى الجُمُعَةِ، وَرَمَضَانُ إِلَى رَمَضَانَ، مُكَفِّراتٌ مَا بَيْنَهُنَّ إِذَا اجْتُنِبَتِ الكَبَائِرُ». رواه مسلم.
And from him, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "The five daily prayers, one Friday to the next Friday, and Ramadan to Ramadan, are an expiation for what is between them, so long as the major sins are avoided." Narrated by Muslim.
وعنه، وعن ابن عمر - ﵃: أنهما سَمعَا رسولَ الله - ﷺ - يقولُ عَلَى أعْوَادِ مِنْبَرِهِ: «لَيَنْتَهِيَنَّ أقْوَامٌ عَنْ وَدْعِهِمُ الجُمُعَاتِ أَوْ لَيَخْتِمَنَّ اللهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ ثُمَّ لَيَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الغَافِلِينَ». رواه مسلم.
And from him, and from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them all): that they both heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying upon the planks of his pulpit: "Let people desist from neglecting the Friday prayers, or else Allah will seal their hearts, and then they will surely be among the heedless." Narrated by Muslim.
وعن ابن عمر ﵄: أنَّ رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمُ الجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
And from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When one of you comes to the Friday prayer, let him perform ghusl." Agreed upon (by al-Bukhari and Muslim).
وعن أَبي سعيد الخدري - ﵁: أنَّ رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «غُسْلُ يَوْمِ الجُمُعَةِ وَاجِبٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُحْتَلِمٍ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ. المراد بِالمُحْتَلِمِ: البَالِغُ. وَالمُرادُ بِالوَاجِبِ: وُجُوبُ اخْتِيارٍ، كَقولِ الرَّجُلِ لِصَاحِبهِ: حَقُّكَ وَاجِبٌ عَلَيَّ. واللهُ أعلم.
And from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The ritual bath (ghusl) of Friday is obligatory upon everyone who has reached puberty." Agreed upon (by al-Bukhari and Muslim). What is meant by "one who has reached puberty" is the adult who has attained maturity. And what is meant by "obligatory" is an obligation of choice, like a man's saying to his companion: "Your right is binding upon me." And Allah knows best.
وعن سَمُرَةَ - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسول الله - ﷺ: «مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ يَوْمَ الجُمُعَةِ فبِها وَنِعْمَتْ وَمَن اغْتَسَلَ فَالغُسْلُ أفْضَلُ». رواه أَبُو داود والترمذي، وقال: «حديث حسن».
And from Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever performs ablution on Friday, that is fine and good; but whoever performs ghusl, the ghusl is better." Narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who said: "A good (hasan) hadith."
وعن سَلمَان - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسول اللهِ - ﷺ: «لاَ يَغْتَسِلُ رَجُلٌ يَومَ الجُمُعَةِ، وَيَتَطَهَّرُ مَا اسْتَطَاعَ مِن طُهْرٍ، وَيَدَّهِنُ مِنْ دُهْنِهِ، أَوْ يَمَسُّ مِنْ طِيبِ بَيْتِهِ، ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ فَلاَ يُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ اثنَيْنِ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي مَا كُتِبَ لَهُ، ثُمَّ يُنْصِتُ إِذَا تَكَلَّمَ الإمَامُ، إِلاَّ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الجُمُعَةِ الأُخْرَى». رواه البخاري.
And from Salman (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "No man performs ghusl on Friday, purifies himself as much as he is able, anoints himself with his oil, or applies some scent from his house, then goes out and does not separate two people, then prays what is prescribed for him, then remains silent when the imam speaks — except that he is forgiven what is between that Friday and the next." Narrated by al-Bukhari.
وعن أَبي هريرة - ﵁: أنَّ رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «مَن اغْتَسَلَ يَومَ الجُمُعَةِ غُسْلَ الجَنَابَةِ، ثُمَّ رَاحَ فِي السَّاعَةِ الأولى فَكَأنَّمَا قَرَّبَ بَدَنَةً ، وَمَنْ رَاحَ في السَّاعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ، فَكَأَنَّمَا قَرَّبَ بَقَرَةً، وَمَنْ رَاحَ في الساعة الثَّالِثَةِ، فَكَأنَّمَا قَرَّبَ كَبْشًا أقْرَنَ، وَمَنْ رَاحَ في السَّاعَةِ الرَّابِعَةِ، فَكَأنَّمَا قَرَّبَ دَجَاجَةً، وَمَنْ رَاحَ في السَّاعَةِ الخَامِسَةِ، فَكَأنَّمَا قَرَّبَ بَيْضَةً، فَإذَا خَرَجَ الإمَامُ، حَضَرَتِ المَلاَئِكَةُ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الذِّكْرَ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ. قَوْله: «غُسْلُ الجَنَابَةِ» أيْ غُسلًا كغُسْلِ الجَنَابَةِ في الصِّفَةِ.
And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever performs ghusl on Friday like the ghusl for major ritual impurity, then goes early in the first hour, it is as though he offered a camel; whoever goes in the second hour, it is as though he offered a cow; whoever goes in the third hour, it is as though he offered a horned ram; whoever goes in the fourth hour, it is as though he offered a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour, it is as though he offered an egg. Then, when the imam comes out, the angels attend, listening to the remembrance." Agreed upon (by al-Bukhari and Muslim). His saying "the ghusl for major ritual impurity" means a ghusl resembling the ghusl for major impurity in its manner.
وعنه أنَّ رسول الله - ﷺ - ذَكَرَ يَوْمَ الجُمُعَةِ، فَقَالَ: «فِيهَا سَاعَةٌ لا يُوافِقُهَا عَبْدٌ مُسْلِمٌ، وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي يَسْألُ اللهَ شَيْئًا، إِلاَّ أعْطَاهُ إيّاهُ» وَأشَارَ بيَدِهِ يُقَلِّلُهَا . متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
And from him: that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned Friday and said: "In it there is an hour during which no Muslim servant, while standing in prayer, asks Allah for something, except that He grants it to him." And he indicated with his hand that it is brief. Agreed upon (by al-Bukhari and Muslim).
وعن أَبي بُرْدَةَ بن أَبي موسى الأشعريِّ - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ عبد الله بن عمر ﵄: أسَمِعْتَ أبَاكَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رسول الله - ﷺ - في شأنِ سَاعَةِ الجُمُعَةِ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رسول الله - ﷺ - يقول: «هِيَ مَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَجْلِسَ الإمَامُ إِلَى أَنْ تُقْضَى الصَّلاةُ». رواه مسلم.
And from Abu Burdah ibn Abi Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Did you hear your father narrating from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concerning the hour of Friday?" He said: I said: "Yes, I heard him say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'It is between the imam's sitting down and the completion of the prayer.'" Narrated by Muslim.
وعن أوس بن أوسٍ - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسول الله - ﷺ: «إنَّ مِنْ أفْضَلِ أيَّامِكُمْ يَوْمَ الجُمُعَةِ، فَأكْثِرُوا عَلَيَّ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ فِيهِ؛ فَإنَّ صَلاَتَكُمْ مَعْرُوضَةٌ عَلَيَّ». رواه أَبُو داود بإسناد صحيح.
On the authority of Aws ibn Aws (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Among the most excellent of your days is Friday, so invoke many blessings upon me on it, for your blessings are presented to me." Narrated by Abū Dāwūd with a sound chain of transmission.
