١٥٦ - باب استحباب تكثير المصلين على الجنازة وجعل صفوفهم ثلاثة فأكثر

From ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is no deceased person over whom a company of Muslims numbering one hundred prays, all of them interceding for him, but that their intercession for him is granted." Narrated by Muslim.

And from Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "There is no Muslim man who dies and then forty men, who associate nothing with Allah, stand over his funeral bier, but that Allah grants their intercession for him." Narrated by Muslim.

And from Marthad ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Yazanī, who said: Whenever Mālik ibn Hubayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) prayed over a funeral bier and found the people few in number for it, he would divide them into three groups for it, then he would say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever has three rows pray over him has secured (Paradise for him)." Narrated by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who said: "A good (ḥasan) hadith."
