Hadith1551

- ﵁ - - ﷺ:

From Abu Zayd Thabit ibn al-Dahhak al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) — who was among the people of the Pledge of al-Ridwan — who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears an oath by a religion other than Islam, lying deliberately, is as he said; whoever kills himself with something will be tormented with it on the Day of Resurrection; there is no vow binding on a man regarding what he does not own; and cursing a believer is like killing him." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Hadith1552

- ﵁: - ﷺ -

From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It does not befit a truthful one (ṣiddīq) to be a frequent curser." Narrated by Muslim.

Hadith1553

From Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those who curse frequently will not be intercessors, nor witnesses, on the Day of Resurrection." Narrated by Muslim.

Hadith1554

وعن سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسُولُ اللهِ - ﷺ: «لاَ تَلاَعَنُوا بِلَعْنَةِ اللهِ، وَلاَ بِغَضَبِهِ، وَلاَ بِالنَّارِ». رواه أَبُو داود والترمذي، وقال: «حديث حسن صحيح».

From Samurah ibn Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not invoke curses on one another by the curse of Allah, nor by His wrath, nor by Hellfire." Narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who said: "A good and sound hadith."

Hadith1555

وعن ابن مسعود - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسُولُ الله - ﷺ: «لَيْسَ المُؤْمِنُ بالطَّعَّانِ ، وَلاَ اللَّعَّانِ، وَلاَ الفَاحِشِ، وَلاَ البَذِيِّ ». رواه الترمذي، وقال: «حديث حسن».

From Ibn Masʿud (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The believer is not given to defaming, nor to cursing, nor to obscenity, nor to foul speech." Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who said: "A good hadith."

Hadith1556

وعن أَبي الدرداء - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسُولُ الله - ﷺ: «إنَّ العَبْدَ إِذَا لَعَنَ شَيْئًا، صَعدَتِ اللَّعْنَةُ إِلَى السَّماءِ، فَتُغْلَقُ أبْوابُ السَّمَاءِ دُونَهَا، ثُمَّ تَهْبِطُ إِلَى الأرْضِ، فَتُغْلَقُ أبْوابُهَا دُونَها، ثُمَّ تَأخُذُ يَمينًا وَشِمالًا، فَإذا لَمْ تَجِدْ مَسَاغًا رَجَعَتْ إِلَى الَّذِي لُعِنَ، فإنْ كَانَ أهْلًا لِذلِكَ، وإلاَّ رَجَعَتْ إِلَى قَائِلِهَا». رواه أَبُو داود.

From Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a servant curses something, the curse ascends to the heaven, and the gates of heaven are shut against it; then it descends to the earth, and its gates are shut against it; then it goes right and left, and when it finds no way through, it returns to the one who was cursed — if he is deserving of it; otherwise it returns to the one who uttered it." Narrated by Abu Dawud.

Hadith1557

وعن عمران بن الحُصَيْنِ ﵄، قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا رسُولُ اللهِ - ﷺ - في بَعْضِ أسْفَارِهِ، وَامْرأةٌ مِنَ الأنْصَارِ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ، فَضَجِرَتْ فَلَعَنَتْهَا، فَسَمِعَ ذَلِكَ رسُولُ الله - ﷺ - فقالَ: «خُذُوا مَا عَلَيْهَا وَدَعُوهَا؛ فَإنَّهَا مَلْعُونَةٌ». قَالَ عمْرانُ: فَكَأنِّي أَرَاهَا الآنَ تَمْشِي في النَّاسِ مَا يَعْرِضُ لَهَا أحَدٌ. رواه مسلم.

From ʿImran ibn al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was on one of his journeys, a woman of the Ansar was on a she-camel; it became fractious, so she cursed it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard that and said: "Take what is on it and let it go; for it is cursed." ʿImran said: It is as though I can see it even now, walking among the people with no one taking it for use. Narrated by Muslim.

Hadith1558

وعن أَبي بَرْزَةَ نَضْلَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الأَسْلَمِيِّ - ﵁ - قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا جَارِيَةٌ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ عَلَيْهَا بَعْضُ مَتَاعِ القَوْمِ. إِذْ بَصُرَتْ بِالنَّبيِّ - ﷺ - وَتَضَايَقَ بِهِمُ الجَبَلُ فَقَالَتْ: حَلْ، اللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْهَا. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - ﷺ: «لاَ تُصَاحِبْنَا نَاقَةٌ عَلَيْهَا لَعْنَةٌ». رواه مسلم. قَوْله: «حَلْ» بفتح الحاء المهملة وَإسكانِ اللاَّم: وَهِيَ كَلِمَةٌ لِزَجْرِ الإبِلِ. وَاعْلَمْ أنَّ هَذَا الحَدِيثَ قَدْ يُسْتَشكَلُ مَعْنَاهُ، وَلاَ إشْكَالَ فِيهِ، بَلِ المُرَادُ النَّهْيُ أَنْ تُصَاحِبَهُمْ تِلْكَ النَّاقَةُ، وَلَيْسَ فِيهِ نَهْيٌ عَنْ بَيْعِهَا وَذَبْحِهَا وَرُكُوبِهَا فِي غَيْرِ صُحْبَةِ النبيّ - ﷺ - بَلْ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ وَمَا سِوَاهُ مِنَ التَّصَرُّفَاتِ جائِزٌ لا مَنْعَ مِنْهُ، إِلاَّ مِنْ مُصَاحَبَةِ النَّبيِّ - ﷺ - بِهَا؛ لأنَّ هذِهِ التَّصَرُّفَاتِ كُلَّهَا كَانَتْ جَائِزَةً فَمُنِعَ بَعْض مِنْهَا، فَبَقِيَ البَاقِي عَلَى مَا كَانَ، واللهُ أَعلم.

From Abu Barzah Nadlah ibn ʿUbayd al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: While a slave-girl was on a she-camel that carried some of the people's baggage, she suddenly caught sight of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — and the mountain had hemmed them into a narrow pass — so she said: "Get on! O Allah, curse it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let no she-camel that carries a curse upon it accompany us." Narrated by Muslim. His statement "ḥal" — with a fathah on the undotted ḥāʾ and a sukūn on the lām — is a word used to drive camels on. Know that the meaning of this hadith may be found problematic, yet there is no real difficulty in it; rather, what is intended is the prohibition of that particular she-camel accompanying them. There is in it no prohibition against selling it, slaughtering it, or riding it other than in the company of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); rather, all of that, and every other disposal of it, is permissible, with no bar to it, except its accompanying the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with it. For all of these dispositions were permissible, then some of them were forbidden, so the rest remains as it was. And Allah knows best.
