٨٣ - باب النهي عن تولية الإمارة والقضاء وغيرهما من الولايات لمن سألها أو حرص عليها فعرض بها

From Abu Musa al-Ashʿari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I came in to see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I and two men from among my paternal cousins. One of the two said: "O Messenger of Allah, appoint us over some of what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has placed under your authority," and the other said the like of that. He said: "By Allah, we do not appoint to this office anyone who asks for it, nor anyone who is eager for it." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
