١٤٣ - باب استحباب المصافحة عند اللقاء وبشاشة الوجه وتقبيل يد الرجل الصالح وتقبيل ولده شفقة ومعانقة القادم من سفر وكراهية الانحناء

From Abu'l-Khattab Qatadah, who said: I said to Anas, “Was shaking hands a practice among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” He said, “Yes.” Narrated by al-Bukhari.

From Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: When the people of Yemen came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The people of Yemen have come to you.” They were the first to introduce shaking hands. Narrated by Abu Dawud with a sound chain.

From al-Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There are no two Muslims who meet and shake hands except that they are forgiven before they part.” Narrated by Abu Dawud.

From Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, when one of us meets his brother or his friend, should he bow to him?” He said, “No.” The man said, “Should he embrace him and kiss him?” He said, “No.” He said, “Should he take his hand and shake it?” He said, “Yes.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who said, “A good (ḥasan) hadith.”

From Safwan ibn ‘Assal (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: A Jew said to his companion, “Take us to this Prophet.” So the two of them came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about nine clear signs … and he related the hadith up to his words: So the two of them kissed his hand and his foot and said, “We bear witness that you are a prophet.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and others with sound chains.

From Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), in a story in which he said: “We drew near to the Prophet ﷺ and kissed his hand.” Narrated by Abu Dawud.

From ‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: Zayd ibn Harithah arrived in Medina while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in my house. He came to him and knocked at the door, so the Prophet ﷺ rose to meet him, dragging his garment, and embraced him and kissed him. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who said, “A good (ḥasan) hadith.”

From Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, “Do not belittle any act of kindness, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face.” Narrated by Muslim.

From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet ﷺ kissed al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both), whereupon al-Aqra’ ibn Habis said, “I have ten children and I have never kissed any of them.” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever shows no mercy will be shown no mercy!” Agreed upon.
