وعن عمر بن عطاءٍ: أنَّ نَافِعَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ أرْسَلَهُ إِلَى السَّائِبِ ابن أُخْتِ نَمِرٍ يَسأَلُهُ عَنْ شَيْءٍ رَآهُ مِنْهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ في الصَّلاَةِ، فَقَالَ: نَعَمْ، صَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ الجُمُعَةَ في المَقْصُورَةِ، فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ الإمَامُ، قُمْتُ في مَقَامِي، فَصَلَّيْتُ، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ أَرْسَلَ إلَيَّ، فَقَالَ: لاَ تَعُدْ لِمَا فَعَلْتَ. إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ الجُمُعَةَ فَلاَ تَصِلْهَا بِصَلاةٍ حَتَّى تَتَكَلَّمَ أَوْ تَخْرُجَ؛ فَإنَّ رسولَ الله - ﷺ - أمَرَنَا بِذلِكَ، أن لاَ نُوصِلَ صَلاَةً بِصَلاَةٍ حَتَّى نَتَكَلَّمَ أَوْ نَخْرُجَ. رواه مسلم.
And on the authority of ʿUmar ibn ʿAṭāʾ: that Nāfiʿ ibn Jubayr sent him to al-Sāʾib, the son of Namir's sister, to ask him about something that Muʿāwiyah had observed from him during the prayer. He said: Yes, I prayed the Friday prayer with him in the enclosure, and when the imam had given the closing salām, I stood up in my place and prayed. When he came in, he sent for me and said: Do not do again what you did. When you have prayed the Friday prayer, do not join it to another prayer until you have spoken or gone out; for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us with that — that we should not join one prayer to another prayer until we speak or go out.
