Allah, the Exalted, said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٧٧ - باب الغضب إذا انتهكت حرمات الشرع والانتصار لدين الله تعالى
٧٧ - باب الغضب إذا انتهكت حرمات الشرع والانتصار لدين الله تعالى
That [has been commanded], and whoever honors the sacred ordinances of Allāh - it is best for him in the sight of his Lord. And permitted to you are the grazing livestock, except what is recited to you.1 So avoid the uncleanliness of idols and avoid false statement,
And He, the Exalted, said:
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تَنصُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ يَنصُرْكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَكُمْ
O you who have believed, if you support Allāh, He will support you and plant firmly your feet.

وعن أَبي مسعود عقبة بن عمرو البدري - ﵁ - قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النبيِّ - ﷺ - فَقَالَ: إنِّي لأَتَأخَّرُ عَن صَلاةِ الصُّبْحِ مِنْ أَجْلِ فلانٍ مِمَّا يُطِيلُ بِنَا! فَمَا رَأيْتُ النَّبيَّ - ﷺ - غَضِبَ في مَوْعِظَةٍ قَطُّ أشَدَّ مِمَّا غَضِبَ يَوْمَئذٍ؛ فَقَالَ: «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إنَّ مِنْكُمْ مُنَفِّرِينَ، فَأيُّكُمْ أَمَّ النَّاسَ فَلْيُوجِزْ؛ فَإنَّ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ الكَبِيرَ وَالصَّغِيرَ وَذَا الحَاجَةِ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Masʿud ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmr al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “I hang back from the dawn prayer because of so-and-so, on account of how long he prolongs it for us!” I never saw the Prophet ﷺ angrier in any admonition than he was that day. He said: “O people, some of you drive others away! So whoever leads the people in prayer, let him be brief, for behind him are the elderly, the young, and those with pressing needs.” Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).
وعن عائشة ﵂، قالت: قَدِمَ رسولُ الله - ﷺ - مِنْ سَفرٍ، وَقَدْ سَتَرْتُ سَهْوَةً لِي بِقِرَامٍ فِيهِ تَمَاثيلُ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُ رسول الله - ﷺ - هتكَهُ وَتَلَوَّنَ وَجهُهُ، وقال: «يَا عائِشَةُ، أشَدُّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا عِنْدَ اللهِ يَوْمَ القيَامَةِ الَّذِينَ يُضَاهُونَ بخَلْقِ اللهِ!». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ. «السَّهْوَةُ»: كَالصُّفَّةِ تَكُونُ بَيْنَ يدي البيت. وَ«القِرام» بكسر القاف: سِتر رقيق، وَ«هَتَكَه»: أفْسَدَ الصُّورَةَ الَّتي فِيهِ.
ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a journey, and I had screened a recess of mine with a thin curtain on which there were images. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw it, he tore it down, his face changed colour, and he said: “O ʿĀʾishah, the people most severely punished by Allah on the Day of Resurrection are those who imitate Allah's creation!” Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim). “Al-sahwah” is like an alcove situated at the front of the house. “Al-qirām” — with a kasrah on the qāf — is a thin curtain. “Hatakahu” means he ruined the image that was on it.
وعنها: أن قرَيشًا أهَمَّهُمْ شَأنُ المَرأَةِ المخزومِيَّةِ الَّتي سَرَقَتْ، فقالوا: مَنْ يُكَلِّمُ فِيهَا رسول الله - ﷺ؟ فقالوا: مَنْ يَجْتَرِئُ عَلَيْهِ إِلاَّ أُسَامَةُ بنُ زَيْدٍ حِبُّ رسول الله - ﷺ؟ فَكَلَّمَهُ أُسَامَةُ، فَقَالَ رسول الله - ﷺ: «أَتَشْفَعُ في حَدٍّ مِنْ حُدُودِ الله تَعَالَى؟!» ثُمَّ قامَ فَاخْتَطَبَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «إنَّمَا أَهْلَك مَنْ قَبْلَكُمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا سَرَقَ فِيهِمُ الشَّرِيفُ تَرَكُوهُ، وَإِذَا سَرَقَ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفُ أقامُوا عَلَيْهِ الحَدَّ، وَايْمُ الله، لَوْ أَنَّ فَاطمَةَ بِنْتَ مُحمّدٍ سَرَقَتْ لَقَطَعتُ يَدَهَا». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
On her authority [ʿĀʾishah]: The case of the Makhzumi woman who had stolen troubled the Quraysh, so they said, “Who will speak to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about her?” They said, “Who would dare approach him except Usamah ibn Zayd, the beloved of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” So Usamah spoke to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Are you interceding concerning one of the prescribed punishments (ḥadd) of Allah, the Exalted?!” Then he stood and delivered an address, saying: “Those before you were destroyed only because, when a noble person among them stole, they would let him go, but when a weak person among them stole, they would carry out the punishment upon him. By Allah, were Fatimah the daughter of Muhammad to steal, I would surely cut off her hand.” Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).
وعن أنس - ﵁: أنَّ النبيَّ - ﷺ - رَأى نُخَامَةً في القبلَةِ، فَشَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى رُؤِيَ في وَجْهِهِ؛ فَقَامَ فَحَكَّهُ بِيَدِهِ، فَقَالَ: «إن َأحدَكُمْ إِذَا قَامَ فِي صَلاَتِهِ فَإنَّهُ يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ، وَإنَّ رَبَّهُ بَيْنَهُ وَبيْنَ القِبلْةِ، فَلاَ يَبْزُقَنَّ أحَدُكُمْ قِبَلَ الْقِبْلَةِ، وَلَكِنْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ، أَوْ تَحْتَ قَدَمِهِ» ثُمَّ أخَذَ طَرَفَ رِدَائِهِ فَبَصَقَ فِيهِ، ثُمَّ رَدَّ بَعْضَهُ عَلَى بَعْضٍ، فَقَالَ: «أَوْ يَفْعَلُ هكذا». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ. وَالأمرُ بالبُصَاقِ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَوْ تَحْتَ قَدَمِهِ هُوَ فِيما إِذَا كَانَ في غَيْرِ المسجِدِ، فَأمَّا فِي المَسجدِ فَلاَ يَبصُقُ إِلاَّ في ثَوْبِهِ.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ saw some phlegm in the direction of the qiblah, and it distressed him so much that it showed on his face. So he stood, scraped it off with his hand, and said: “When one of you stands in his prayer, he is in intimate conversation with his Lord, and his Lord is between him and the qiblah. So let none of you spit towards the qiblah, but rather to his left or under his foot.” Then he took the edge of his cloak, spat into it, folded part of it over the other, and said: “Or he may do like this.” Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim). The command to spit to one's left or under one's foot applies when one is somewhere other than the mosque; but in the mosque, one should only spit into his garment.
