Allah, the Exalted, said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٨١ - باب النهي عن سؤال الإمارة واختيار ترك الولايات إذا لم يتعين عليه أو تدع حاجة إليه
٨١ - باب النهي عن سؤال الإمارة واختيار ترك الولايات إذا لم يتعين عليه أو تدع حاجة إليه
ۚ
That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
- ﵁ - - ﷺ:
On the authority of Abu Saʿid ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Samura (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: 'O ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Samura, do not ask for leadership, for if you are given it without having asked, you will be helped in it, but if you are given it on account of having asked, you will be left to it. And if you swear an oath and then see something better than it, then do that which is better and make expiation for your oath.' Agreed upon.
وعن أَبي ذرٍّ - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسول الله - ﷺ: «يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ، إنِّي أَرَاكَ ضَعِيفًا، وَإنِّي أُحِبُّ لَكَ مَا أُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِي. لاَ تَأَمَّرَنَّ عَلَى اثْنَيْنِ، وَلاَ تَوَلَّيَنَّ مَالَ يَتِيمٍ». رواه مسلم .
On the authority of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Abu Dharr, I see that you are weak, and I love for you what I love for myself. Do not take command over (even) two people, and do not take charge of an orphan's property.' Narrated by Muslim.
وعنه، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رسول الله، ألا تَسْتَعْمِلُني؟ فَضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى مَنْكِبي، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ، إنَّكَ ضَعِيفٌ، وَإِنَّها أَمَانَةٌ، وَإنَّهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ خِزْيٌ وَنَدَامَةٌ، إِلاَّ مَنْ أَخَذَهَا بِحَقِّهَا، وَأَدَّى الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ فِيهَا». رواه مسلم.
On his authority, who said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, will you not appoint me to a post?' He struck my shoulder with his hand, then said: 'O Abu Dharr, you are weak, and it is a trust, and on the Day of Resurrection it will be disgrace and regret, except for the one who takes it up by its right and fulfils what is due from him in it.' Narrated by Muslim.
وعن أَبي هريرة - ﵁: أنَّ رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «إنَّكُمْ سَتَحْرِصُونَ عَلَى الإمَارَةِ، وَسَتَكونُ نَدَامَةً يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ». رواه البخاري.
On the authority of Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed you will be eager for leadership, but it will be a source of regret on the Day of Resurrection.' Narrated by al-Bukhari.
