Allah, the Most High, said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٦١ - باب النهي عن البخل والشح
٦١ - باب النهي عن البخل والشح
But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need
And He, the Most High, said:
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا ٱسْتَطَعْتُمْ وَٱسْمَعُوا۟ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ وَأَنفِقُوا۟ خَيْرًا لِّأَنفُسِكُمْ ۗ وَمَن يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
So fear Allāh as much as you are able and listen and obey and spend [in the way of Allāh]; it is better for your selves. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful.
وأما الأحاديث فتقدمت جملة مِنْهَا في الباب السابق.
As for the hadiths, a number of them have already been mentioned in the preceding chapter.
وعن جابر - ﵁: أنَّ رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «اتَّقُوا الظُّلْمَ؛ فَإِنَّ الظُّلْمَ ظُلُمَاتٌ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ. وَاتَّقُوا الشُّحَّ؛ فَإنَّ الشُّحَّ أهْلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ، حَمَلَهُمْ عَلَى أَنْ سَفَكُوا دِمَاءهُمْ وَاسْتَحَلُّوا مَحَارِمَهُمْ». رواه مسلم.
On the authority of Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: «Beware of wrongdoing, for wrongdoing will be layers of darkness on the Day of Resurrection. And beware of avarice, for avarice destroyed those who came before you: it drove them to shed their blood and to violate what was forbidden to them.» Narrated by Muslim.
