١٨١ - باب الأمر بتعهد القرآن والتحذير عن تعريضه للنسيان

On the authority of Abū Mūsā (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: "Keep up this Qur'an, for by the One in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, it slips away more readily than camels from their hobbling ropes." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

And on the authority of Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The likeness of the keeper of the Qur'an is only like that of hobbled camels: if he tends them he holds on to them, and if he lets them loose they go away." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).
