١٢٨ - باب جواز الاستلقاء على القفا ووضع إحدى الرجلين على الأخرى إذا لم يخف انكشاف العورة وجواز القعود متربعا ومحتبيا

On the authority of ʿAbdullāh ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both): that he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) lying on his back in the mosque, placing one of his legs over the other. Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

And on the authority of Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had prayed the dawn prayer, he would sit cross-legged in his place until the sun had risen well up and bright. A sound ḥadīth, narrated by Abū Dāwūd and others with sound chains.

And on the authority of Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the courtyard of the Kaʿbah seated with his legs drawn up and clasped by his hands, like this — and he demonstrated the iḥtibāʾ posture with his hands — which is the qurfuṣāʾ (squatting) posture. Narrated by al-Bukhārī.

And on the authority of Qaylah bint Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was sitting in the qurfuṣāʾ (squatting) posture; and when I saw the Messenger of Allah in such humble submission in his sitting, I trembled out of awe. Narrated by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī.

And on the authority of al-Sharīd ibn Suwayd (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me while I was sitting like this, having placed my left hand behind my back and leaning upon the heel of my hand. So he said: "Do you sit in the manner of those upon whom there is wrath?!" Narrated by Abū Dāwūd with a sound chain.
