Allah, the Exalted, said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī١٣٠ - باب الرؤيا وما يتعلق بها
١٣٠ - باب الرؤيا وما يتعلق بها
And of His signs is your sleep by night and day and your seeking of His bounty. Indeed in that are signs for a people who listen.

And on the authority of Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Nothing remains of prophethood except the bearers of glad tidings." They said: And what are the bearers of glad tidings? He said: "The righteous dream." Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
وعنه: أنَّ النبيَّ - ﷺ - قَالَ: «إِذَا اقْتَرَبَ الزَّمَانُ لَمْ تَكَدْ رُؤيَا المُؤْمِنِ تَكْذِبُ، وَرُؤْيَا الْمُؤْمِنِ جُزْءٌ مِنْ سِتَّةٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ جُزْءًا مِنَ النُّبُوَّةِ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ. وفي رواية: «أصْدَقُكُمْ رُؤْيَا، أصْدَقُكُمْ حَدِيثًا».
And on his authority: that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the time draws near, the dream of the believer will scarcely be false; and the dream of the believer is one part of forty-six parts of prophethood." Agreed upon. And in a narration: "The most truthful of you in dreams are the most truthful of you in speech."
وعنه، قَالَ: قَالَ رسول الله - ﷺ: «مَنْ رَآنِي في المَنَامِ فَسَيَرَانِي في اليَقَظَةِ - أَوْ كَأنَّما رَآنِي في اليَقَظَةِ - لاَ يَتَمَثَّلُ الشَّيْطَانُ بِي ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
And on his authority, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever sees me in a dream will see me in wakefulness — or it is as though he saw me in wakefulness — for Satan does not take my likeness." Agreed upon.
وعن أَبي سعيدٍ الخدرِيِّ - ﵁: أنَّه سَمِعَ النبيَّ - ﷺ - يقول: «إِذَا رَأى أحَدُكُمْ رُؤيَا يُحِبُّهَا، فَإنَّمَا هِيَ مِنَ اللهِ تَعَالَى، فَلْيَحْمَدِ اللهَ عَلَيْهَا، وَلْيُحَدِّثْ بِهَا - وفي رواية: فَلاَ يُحَدِّثْ بِهَا إِلاَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّ - وَإِذَا رَأَى غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ مِمَّا يَكْرَهُ، فإنَّمَا هِيَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ، فَلْيَسْتَعِذْ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، وَلاَ يَذْكُرْهَا لأَحَدٍ؛ فَإنَّهَا لا تَضُرُّهُ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
And on the authority of Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī (may Allah be pleased with him): that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When one of you sees a dream that he likes, it is only from Allah, the Exalted, so let him praise Allah for it and speak of it" — and in a narration: "let him not speak of it except to one whom he loves" — "and when he sees other than that, of what he dislikes, it is only from Satan, so let him seek refuge from its evil and not mention it to anyone; for then it will not harm him." Agreed upon.
وعن أَبي قَتَادَة - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ النبيُّ - ﷺ: «الرُّؤْيَا الصَّالِحَةُ - وفي رواية: الرُّؤْيَا الحَسَنَةُ - مِنَ اللهِ، وَالحُلُمُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ، فَمَنْ رَأَى شَيْئًا يَكْرَهُهُ فَلْيَنْفُثْ عَن شِمَالِهِ ثَلاَثًا، وَلْيَتَعَوَّذْ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ؛ فإنَّهَا لا تَضُرُّهُ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ. «النَّفْثُ»: نَفْخٌ لَطِيفٌ لا رِيقَ مَعَهُ.
And on the authority of Abū Qatādah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The righteous dream — and in a narration: the good dream — is from Allah, and the bad dream is from Satan. So whoever sees something he dislikes, let him blow lightly to his left three times and seek refuge from Satan; for then it will not harm him." Agreed upon. "Al-nafth" is a gentle blowing without any saliva.
وعن جابر - ﵁ - عن رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «إِذَا رَأى أحَدُكُمْ الرُّؤْيَا يَكْرَهُهَا، فَلْيَبْصُقْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثَلاثًا، وَلْيَسْتَعِذْ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ ثَلاَثًا، وَلْيَتَحَوَّل عَنْ جَنْبِهِ الَّذِي كَانَ عَلَيْهِ». رواه مسلم.
And on the authority of Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: "When one of you sees a dream that he dislikes, let him spit to his left three times, seek refuge in Allah from Satan three times, and turn over from the side on which he was lying." Narrated by Muslim.
وعن أَبي الأسقع واثِلةَ بن الأسقعِ - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسولُ الله - ﷺ: «إنَّ مِنْ أَعْظَمِ الفِرَى أَنْ يَدَّعِيَ الرَّجُلُ إِلَى غَيرِ أبِيهِ، أَوْ يُرِي عَيْنَهُ مَا لَمْ تَرَ ، أَوْ يَقُولَ عَلَى رسول الله - ﷺ - مَا لَمْ يَقُلْ». رواه البخاري.
And on the authority of Abū al-Asqaʿ, Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among the gravest of lies is that a man claims descent from someone other than his father, or claims his eye saw what it did not see, or attributes to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) what he did not say." Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
