Allah, the Exalted, said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٧٦ - باب احتمال الأذى
٧٦ - باب احتمال الأذى
Who spend [in the cause of Allāh] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allāh loves the doers of good;
And He, the Exalted, also said:
وَلَمَن صَبَرَ وَغَفَرَ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ
And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of resolve.1

وعن أَبي هريرة رضي الله تَعَالَى عنه: أنَّ رَجُلًا، قَالَ: يَا رسول الله، إنّ لي قَرَابةً أصِلُهم وَيَقْطَعُونِي، وَأُحْسِنُ إلَيْهِمْ وَيُسِيئُونَ إلَيَّ، وَأحْلُمُ عَنهم وَيَجْهَلُونَ عَلَيَّ! فَقَالَ: «لَئِنْ كُنْتَ كَمَا قُلْتَ، فَكأنَّمَا تُسِفُّهُمُ الْمَلَّ، وَلاَ يَزَالُ مَعَكَ مِنَ اللهِ تَعَالَى ظَهيرٌ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا دُمْتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ». رواه مسلم. وقد سَبَقَ شَرْحُهُ في بَابِ صلة الأرحام.
And on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah the Exalted be pleased with him): that a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have relatives whom I keep ties with while they sever ties with me, I treat well while they treat me badly, and I am forbearing towards them while they behave foolishly towards me!" He said: "If you are as you say, then it is as though you are feeding them hot ashes, and there will not cease to be with you, from Allah the Exalted, a supporter against them so long as you remain upon that."
