Allah the Exalted said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٩٤ - باب إكرام الضيف
٩٤ - باب إكرام الضيف
Has there reached you the story of the honored guests of Abraham?1 -
And the Exalted also said:
وَجَآءَهُۥ قَوْمُهُۥ يُهْرَعُونَ إِلَيْهِ وَمِن قَبْلُ كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ ۚ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِى هُنَّ أَطْهَرُ لَكُمْ ۖ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ فِى ضَيْفِىٓ ۖ أَلَيْسَ مِنكُمْ رَجُلٌ رَّشِيدٌ
And his people came hastening to him, and before [this] they had been doing evil deeds.1 He said, "O my people, these are my daughters;2 they are purer for you. So fear Allāh and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a man of reason?"
وعن أَبي هريرة - ﵁: أنَّ النبيَّ - ﷺ - قَالَ: «مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللهِ وَاليَوْمِ الآخِرِ فَلْيُكْرِمْ ضَيْفَهُ، وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللهِ وَاليَومِ الآخِرِ، فَلْيَصِلْ رَحِمَهُ، وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللهِ وَاليَومِ الآخِرِ، فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
And from Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him honour his guest. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him maintain ties with his kin. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him say something good or remain silent." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).
وعن أَبي شُرَيْح خُوَيْلِدِ بن عَمرو الخُزَاعِيِّ - ﵁ - قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رسول الله - ﷺ - يقول: «مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللهِ وَاليَوْمِ الآخِرِ فَلْيُكْرِمْ ضَيْفَهُ جَائِزَتَهُ» قالوا: وَمَا جَائِزَتُهُ؟ يَا رسول الله، قَالَ: «يَوْمُهُ وَلَيْلَتُهُ، وَالضِّيَافَةُ ثَلاَثَةُ أيَّامٍ، فَمَا كَانَ وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ فَهُوَ صَدَقَةٌ عَلَيْهِ». متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ. وفي رواية لِمسلمٍ: «لاَ يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يُقِيمَ عِنْدَ أخِيهِ حَتَّى يُؤْثِمَهُ» قالوا: يَا رسول الله، وَكيْفَ يُؤْثِمُهُ؟ قَالَ: «يُقِيمُ عِنْدَهُ وَلاَ شَيْءَ لَهُ يُقْرِيه بِهِ».
And from Abū Shurayḥ Khuwaylid ibn ʿAmr al-Khuzāʿī (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم saying: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him honour his guest with his due hospitality." They asked: "And what is his due hospitality, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "It is [the special care of] his day and his night; and hospitality is for three days, and whatever is beyond that is a charity he bestows upon him." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim). And in a narration of Muslim: "It is not lawful for a Muslim to stay with his brother until he leads him into sin." They asked: "O Messenger of Allah, and how would he lead him into sin?" He said: "He keeps staying with him when he has nothing left with which to offer him hospitality."
