Allah the Exalted said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٢٤٢ - باب وجوب الشكر
٢٤٢ - باب وجوب الشكر
So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.
And He the Exalted said:
وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِى لَشَدِيدٌ
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"
وقال تَعَالَى:
And He the Exalted said:
وَقُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ شَرِيكٌ فِى ٱلْمُلْكِ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ وَلِىٌّ مِّنَ ٱلذُّلِّ ۖ وَكَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيرًۢا
And say, "Praise to Allāh, who has not taken a son and has had no partner in [His] dominion and has no [need of a] protector out of weakness; and glorify Him with [great] glorification."
وقال تَعَالَى:
And He the Exalted said:
دَعْوَىٰهُمْ فِيهَا سُبْحَـٰنَكَ ٱللَّهُمَّ وَتَحِيَّتُهُمْ فِيهَا سَلَـٰمٌ ۚ وَءَاخِرُ دَعْوَىٰهُمْ أَنِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
Their call therein will be, "Exalted are You, O Allāh," and their greeting therein will be, "Peace." And the last of their call will be, "Praise to Allāh, Lord of the worlds!"
وعن أَبي هريرة - ﵁: أنَّ النبيَّ - ﷺ - أُتِيَ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ بِقَدَحَيْنِ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَلَبَنٍ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهمَا فَأَخَذَ اللَّبَنَ. فَقَالَ جِبريل: الحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِي هَدَاكَ لِلفِطْرَةِ لَوْ أخَذْتَ الخَمْرَ غَوَتْ أُمَّتُكَ. رواه مسلم.
And from Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): on the night the Prophet ﷺ was taken on the Night Journey, he was brought two cups, one of wine and one of milk. He looked at them and took the milk. Jibrīl said: “Praise be to Allah, who guided you to the natural disposition (fiṭrah); had you taken the wine, your nation would have gone astray.” Narrated by Muslim.
وعنه، عن رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «كُلُّ أمْرٍ ذِي بَالٍ لاَ يُبْدأُ فِيهِ بِالْحَمْدُ للهِ فَهُوَ أَقْطَعُ». حديث حسن، رواه أَبُو داود وغيره.
And from him, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said: “Every matter of importance that is not begun with the praise of Allah is bereft of blessing.” A good (ḥasan) ḥadīth, narrated by Abū Dāwūd and others.
وعن أَبي موسى الأشعري - ﵁: أنَّ رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «إِذَا مَاتَ وَلَدُ العَبْدِ قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى لِمَلائِكَتِهِ: قَبَضْتُمْ وَلَدَ عَبْدي؟ فَيقولون: نَعَمْ، فيقول: قَبَضْتُمْ ثَمَرَةَ فُؤادِهِ؟ فيقولون: نَعَمْ، فيقول: ماذا قَالَ عَبْدِي؟ فَيقولون: حَمدَكَ وَاسْتَرْجَعَ، فيقُولُ اللهُ تَعَالَى: ابْنُوا لِعَبْدي بَيتًا في الجَنَّةِ، وَسَمُّوهُ بَيْتَ الحَمْدِ». رواه الترمذي، وقال: «حديث حسن».
And from Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When the child of a servant dies, Allah the Exalted says to His angels: ‘Did you take the child of My servant?’ They say: ‘Yes.’ He says: ‘Did you take the fruit of his heart?’ They say: ‘Yes.’ He says: ‘What did My servant say?’ They say: ‘He praised You and said, “To Allah we belong and to Him we return.”’ So Allah the Exalted says: ‘Build for My servant a house in Paradise, and name it the House of Praise.’” Narrated by al-Tirmidhī, who said: “A good (ḥasan) ḥadīth.”
وعن أنس - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسول الله - ﷺ: «إنَّ الله لَيرْضَى عَنِ العَبْدِ يَأكُلُ الأَكْلَةَ، فَيَحْمَدُهُ عَلَيْهَا، وَيَشْرَبُ الشَّرْبَة، فَيَحْمَدُهُ عَلَيْهَا». رواه مسلم.
And from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Indeed Allah is well pleased with the servant who eats a meal and praises Him for it, and drinks a drink and praises Him for it.” Narrated by Muslim.
