٣٥٠ - باب تحريم الشفاعة في الحدود
Allah the Exalted said:
The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse1 - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes,2 and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion [i.e., law] of Allāh,3 if you should believe in Allāh and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.
ʿĀʼishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Quraysh were greatly concerned about the case of the Makhzūmī woman who had stolen, and they said: “Who will speak to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about her?” They said: “Who would dare [approach] him except Usāmah ibn Zayd, the beloved of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” So Usāmah spoke to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do you intercede concerning one of the prescribed punishments (ḥadd) of Allah the Exalted?!” Then he stood and addressed [the people], saying: “Those before you were destroyed only because, when a noble person among them stole, they would let him be, but when a weak person among them stole, they would carry out the punishment on him. By Allah, were Fāṭimah, the daughter of Muḥammad, to steal, I would cut off her hand.” Agreed upon. In another narration: The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed colour and he said: “Do you intercede concerning one of the prescribed punishments of Allah?!” Usāmah said: “Ask forgiveness for me, Messenger of Allah.” He said: Then he ordered that the woman’s hand be cut off, and it was cut off.
