Allah the Exalted said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٢٧٨ - باب النهي عن المن بالعطية ونحوها
٢٧٨ - باب النهي عن المن بالعطية ونحوها
ۖ
O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders [of it] or injury as does one who spends his wealth [only] to be seen by the people and does not believe in Allāh and the Last Day. His example is like that of a [large] smooth stone upon which is dust and is hit by a downpour that leaves it bare. They are unable [to keep] anything of what they have earned. And Allāh does not guide the disbelieving people.
And He the Exalted said:
ٱلَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ لَا يُتْبِعُونَ مَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ مَنًّا وَلَآ أَذًى ۙ لَّهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allāh and then do not follow up what they have spent with reminders [of it] or [other] injury will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
وعن أَبي ذَر - ﵁ - عن النَّبيّ - ﷺ - قَالَ: «ثَلاَثَةٌ لاَ يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللهُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ، وَلاَ يَنْظُرُ إلَيْهِمْ، وَلاَ يُزَكِّيِهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَليمٌ». قَالَ: فَقَرَأَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ - ﷺ - ثلاثَ مِرارٍ: قَالَ أَبُو ذرٍ: خَابُوا وخَسِرُوا مَنْ هُمْ يَا رسول الله؟ قَالَ: «المُسْبِلُ، والمَنَّانُ، وَالمُنْفِقُ سِلْعَتَهُ بالحَلِفِ الكَاذِبِ». رواه مسلم. وفي روايةٍ لَهُ: «المُسْبِلُ إزَارَهُ» يَعْنِي: المُسْبِلَ إزَارَهُ وَثَوْبَهُ أسْفَلَ مِنَ الكَعْبَيْنِ لِلخُيَلاَءِ.
It is related from Abū Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: "There are three to whom Allah will not speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He look at them, nor will He purify them, and for them is a painful punishment." He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then recited it three times. Abū Dharr said: May they be ruined and lost! Who are they, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "The one who lets his garment trail in arrogance, the one who reminds others of his favours to belittle them, and the one who sells his goods by means of a false oath." Reported by Muslim. In another narration of his: "The one who lets his lower garment trail" — meaning the one who lets his lower garment and his robe hang below the ankles out of pride.
