١٨٩ - باب فضل المشي إلى المساجد

On the authority of Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever goes to the mosque in the morning or the evening, Allah prepares for him a hospitable lodging in Paradise every time he goes in the morning or the evening." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

And on his authority: that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever purifies himself in his house, then proceeds to one of the houses of Allah to discharge one of the obligatory duties enjoined by Allah, his steps will be such that one of them wipes away a sin and the other raises him a degree." Narrated by Muslim.

On the authority of Ubayy ibn Kaʿb (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: There was a man of the Anṣār—I do not know of anyone who lived farther from the mosque than he—yet no prayer ever escaped him. It was said to him, "If only you bought a donkey to ride in the darkness and in the scorching heat." He said, "It would not please me that my dwelling were beside the mosque; I want my walking to the mosque to be recorded for me, and my returning when I return to my family." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has gathered all of that for you." Narrated by Muslim.

On the authority of Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The plots around the mosque became vacant, so the Banū Salimah wished to move close to the mosque. This reached the Prophet ﷺ, and he said to them, "It has reached me that you wish to move close to the mosque?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, we did indeed intend that." He said, "O Banū Salimah, [stay in] your homes—your footsteps are being recorded; your homes—your footsteps are being recorded." So they said, "It would not have pleased us that we had moved." Narrated by Muslim; and al-Bukhārī reported its meaning from the narration of Anas.

On the authority of Abū Mūsā (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The greatest of people in reward for the prayer are those who walk farthest to it, then the next farthest. And the one who waits for the prayer until he prays it with the imam is greater in reward than the one who prays it and then sleeps." Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

On the authority of Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Give glad tidings to those who walk to the mosques in the darkness of complete light on the Day of Resurrection." Narrated by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī.

On the authority of Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shall I not direct you to that by which Allah wipes away sins and raises ranks?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Performing ablution thoroughly despite hardships, the frequency of steps towards the mosques, and waiting for the next prayer after the prayer—that is the ribāṭ (vigilant devotion), that is the ribāṭ." Narrated by Muslim.

On the authority of Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "When you see a man frequenting the mosques, then bear witness to his faith, for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has said: 'The mosques of Allah are only maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day' [to the end of the verse]." Narrated by al-Tirmidhī, who said, "A good (ḥasan) hadith."
