It is related from Ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever swears an oath to seize the property of a Muslim man unjustly will meet Allah while He is angry with him." He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited to us its confirmation from the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: {Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price} to the end of the verse [Āl ʿImrān: 77]. Agreed upon.

It is related from Abū Umāmah Iyās ibn Thaʿlabah al-Ḥārithī (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever seizes the right of a Muslim man by his oath, Allah has made the Fire obligatory for him and has forbidden him Paradise." A man said to him: Even if it be something trifling, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "Even if it be a twig of the arāk tree." Reported by Muslim.

It is related from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ (may Allah be pleased with them both) from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: "The major sins are: associating partners with Allah, disobedience to parents, killing a soul, and the false oath that plunges one into sin." Reported by al-Bukhārī. In another narration of his: A bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, what are the major sins? He said: "Associating partners with Allah." He said: Then what? He said: "The false, plunging oath." I said: And what is the false, plunging oath? He said: "It is the one who seizes the property of a Muslim man!" — meaning by an oath in which he is lying.
