٣٣٢ - باب كراهة قول الإنسان: اللهم اغفر لي إن شئت بل يجزم بالطلب

From Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: «Let none of you say: O Allah, forgive me if You will; O Allah, have mercy on me if You will — rather let him be firm in his request, for there is none who can compel Him.» Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim). In a narration of Muslim: «Rather let him be firm and magnify his desire, for nothing is too great for Allah the Exalted to give.»

From Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: «When one of you supplicates, let him be firm in his request, and let him not say: O Allah, if You will, then give me — for there is none who can be coerced regarding Him.» Agreed upon (al-Bukhārī and Muslim).
