Allah the Exalted has said:
رياض الصالحينAbū Zakariyyā Muḥyī al-Dīn Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī٧١ - باب التواضع وخفض الجناح للمؤمنين
٧١ - باب التواضع وخفض الجناح للمؤمنين
And lower your wing [i.e., show kindness] to those who follow you of the believers.
And the Exalted has said:
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَن يَرْتَدَّ مِنكُمْ عَن دِينِهِۦ فَسَوْفَ يَأْتِى ٱللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍ يُحِبُّهُمْ وَيُحِبُّونَهُۥٓ أَذِلَّةٍ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَعِزَّةٍ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ يُجَـٰهِدُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَخَافُونَ لَوْمَةَ لَآئِمٍ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ وَٰسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ
O you who have believed, whoever of you should revert from his religion - Allāh will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers, strong against the disbelievers; they strive in the cause of Allāh and do not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favor of Allāh; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allāh is all-Encompassing and Knowing.
وقال تَعَالَى:
And the Exalted has said:
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعْضَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِثْمٌ ۖ وَلَا تَجَسَّسُوا۟ وَلَا يَغْتَب بَّعْضُكُم بَعْضًا ۚ أَيُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَن يَأْكُلَ لَحْمَ أَخِيهِ مَيْتًا فَكَرِهْتُمُوهُ ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ تَوَّابٌ رَّحِيمٌ
O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allāh; indeed, Allāh is Accepting of Repentance and Merciful.
وقال تَعَالَى:
And the Exalted has said:
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.
وقال تَعَالَى:
And the Exalted has said:
وَنَادَىٰٓ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأَعْرَافِ رِجَالًا يَعْرِفُونَهُم بِسِيمَىٰهُمْ قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنكُمْ جَمْعُكُمْ وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
And the companions of the Elevations will call to men [within Hell] whom they recognize by their mark, saying, "Of no avail to you was your gathering1 and [the fact] that you were arrogant."
وعن عِيَاضِ بنِ حمارٍ - ﵁ - قَالَ: قَالَ رسول الله - ﷺ: «إنَّ اللهَ أوْحَى إِلَيَّ أَنْ تَوَاضَعُوا حَتَّى لاَ يَفْخَرَ أحَدٌ عَلَى أحَدٍ، وَلاَ يَبْغِي أحَدٌ عَلَى أحَدٍ». رواه مسلم.
And on the authority of ʿIyāḍ ibn Ḥimār (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Allah has revealed to me that you should be humble towards one another, so that no one boasts over another, nor wrongs another." Narrated by Muslim.
وعن أَبي هريرة - ﵁: أنَّ رسول الله - ﷺ - قَالَ: «مَا نَقَصَتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ، وَمَا زادَ اللهُ عَبْدًا بعَفْوٍ إِلاَّ عِزًّا، وَمَا تَوَاضَعَ أحَدٌ للهِ إِلاَّ رَفَعَهُ اللهُ». رواه مسلم.
And on the authority of Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Charity does not diminish wealth; Allah increases nothing but honour for a servant who forgives; and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah but that Allah raises him." Narrated by Muslim.
وعن أنس - ﵁: أنَّهُ مَرَّ عَلَى صبيَانٍ، فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ، وقال: كَانَ النبيُّ - ﷺ - يفعله. متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
And on the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): that he passed by some children and greeted them with salām, and said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do this. Agreed upon.
وعنه، قَالَ: إن كَانَتِ الأَمَةُ مِنْ إمَاءِ المَدينَةِ لَتَأْخُذُ بِيَدِ النَّبيِّ - ﷺ - فَتَنْطَلِقُ بِهِ حَيْثُ شَاءتْ. رواه البخاري.
And on his authority, who said: A slave-girl from among the slave-girls of Medina would take the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) by the hand and lead him off wherever she wished. Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
وعن الأَسْوَدِ بن يَزيدَ، قَالَ: سُئِلَتْ عائشةُ ﵂ مَا كَانَ النَّبيُّ - ﷺ - يَصْنَعُ فِي بَيْتِهِ؟ قالت: كَانَ يَكُون في مِهْنَةِ أهْلِهِ - يعني: خِدمَة أهلِه - فإذا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ، خَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ. رواه البخاري.
And on the authority of al-Aswad ibn Yazīd, who said: ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked: What did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) do in his house? She said: He used to be in the service of his household — that is, serving his family — and when the prayer was due, he would go out to the prayer. Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
وعن أَبي رِفَاعَةَ تَميم بن أُسَيْدٍ - ﵁ - قَالَ: انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسولِ الله - ﷺ - وَهُوَ يخطب، فقلت: يَا رسول الله، رَجُلٌ غَريبٌ جَاءَ يَسْألُ عن دِينهِ لا يَدْرِي مَا دِينُهُ؟ فَأقْبَلَ عَليَّ رسولُ اللهِ - ﷺ - وتَرَكَ خُطْبَتَهُ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إلَيَّ، فَأُتِيَ بِكُرْسيٍّ، فَقَعَدَ عَلَيْهِ، وَجَعَلَ يُعَلِّمُنِي مِمَّا عَلَّمَهُ اللهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَى خُطْبَتَهُ فَأتَمَّ آخِرَهَا. رواه مسلم.
And on the authority of Abū Rifāʿah Tamīm ibn Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was delivering a sermon, and I said: O Messenger of Allah, a stranger has come asking about his religion, not knowing what his religion is. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to me and left his sermon until he reached me; then a chair was brought and he sat upon it, and he began to teach me from what Allah had taught him; then he returned to his sermon and completed its end. Narrated by Muslim.
وعن أنس - ﵁: أن رسول الله - ﷺ - كَانَ إِذَا أكَلَ طَعَامًا، لَعِقَ أصَابِعَهُ الثَّلاَثَ. قَالَ: وقال: «إِذَا سَقَطَتْ لُقْمَةُ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيُمِط عنها الأَذى، وليَأكُلْها وَلاَ يَدَعْها لِلشَّيْطان» وأمرَ أن تُسلَتَ القَصْعَةُ ، قَالَ: «فإنَّكُمْ لاَ تَدْرُونَ فِي أَيِّ طَعَامِكُمُ البَرَكَة». رواه مسلم.
And on the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he ate food, would lick his three fingers. He said: And he said: "When a morsel of food falls from one of you, let him remove any dirt from it, eat it, and not leave it for the devil." And he ordered that the bowl be wiped clean, saying: "For indeed you do not know in which part of your food the blessing lies." Narrated by Muslim.
وعن أَبي هريرة - ﵁ - عن النبيِّ - ﷺ - قَالَ: «مَا بَعَثَ الله نَبِيًّا إِلاَّ رَعَى الغَنَمَ» قَالَ أصْحَابُهُ: وَأنْتَ؟ فَقَالَ: «نَعَمْ، كُنْتُ أرْعَاهَا عَلَى قَرَارِيطَ لأَهْلِ مَكَّةَ». رواه البخاري.
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Allah never sent a prophet but that he tended sheep." His Companions said: "And you?" He said: "Yes; I used to tend them for a few qirats (small coins) for the people of Mecca." Narrated by al-Bukhari.
وعنه، عن النبيِّ - ﷺ - قَالَ: «لَوْ دُعِيتُ إِلَى كُراعٍ أَوْ ذِرَاعٍ لأَجَبْتُ، ولو أُهْدِيَ إِلَيَّ ذراعٌ أَوْ كُراعٌ لَقَبِلْتُ». رواه البخاري.
And on his authority, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Were I invited to a sheep's trotter or foreleg, I would accept; and were a foreleg or a trotter given to me as a gift, I would receive it." Narrated by al-Bukhari.
وعن أنس - ﵁ - قَالَ: كَانَتْ ناقةُ رسول الله - ﷺ - العضْبَاءُ لاَ تُسْبَقُ، أَوْ لاَ تَكَادُ تُسْبَقُ، فَجَاءَ أعْرَابيٌّ عَلَى قَعودٍ لَهُ، فَسَبَقَهَا، فَشَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ حَتَّى عَرَفَهُ، فَقَالَ: «حَقٌّ عَلَى اللهِ أَنْ لاَ يَرْتَفِعَ شَيْءٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا إِلاَّ وَضَعَهُ». رواه البخاري.
On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, al-ʿAdbaʾ, would not be outrun—or would scarcely be outrun. Then a bedouin came on a young camel of his and outran her. That distressed the Muslims, and he ﷺ noticed it, so he said: "It is Allah's way that nothing of this world is raised up but that He brings it low." Narrated by al-Bukhari.
