٣١١ - باب نهي من أكل ثوما أو بصلا أو كراثا أو غيره مما له رائحة كريهة عن دخول المسجد قبل زوال رائحته إلا لضرورة — Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn

Hadith1701

﵄: - ﷺ - - -

From Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both): that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has eaten of this plant — meaning garlic — let him not come near our mosque." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). And in a narration of Muslim: "our mosques."

Hadith1703

- ﵁ - - ﷺ:

From Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has eaten garlic or onion, let him keep away from us" — or: "let him keep away from our mosque." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). And in a narration of Muslim: "Whoever has eaten onion, garlic, or leek, let him not come near our mosque, for the angels are harmed by what harms the children of Adam."

Hadith1704

وعن عمر بن الخطاب - ﵁: أنَّه خَطَبَ يومَ الجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ في خطبته: ثُمَّ إنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ تَأكُلُونَ شَجَرتَيْنِ مَا أرَاهُمَا إِلاَّ خَبِيثَتَيْن: البَصَلَ، وَالثُّومَ. لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رسولَ الله - ﷺ - إِذَا وَجدَ ريحَهُمَا مِنَ الرَّجُلِ في المَسْجِدِ أَمَرَ بِهِ، فَأُخْرِجَ إِلَى البَقِيعِ، فَمَنْ أكَلَهُمَا، فَلْيُمِتْهُمَا طَبْخًا . رواه مسلم.

From ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): that he delivered a sermon on Friday and said in his sermon: "Then, O people, you eat two plants which I consider nothing but foul: onion and garlic. I have indeed seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): whenever he found their smell coming from a man in the mosque, he would give an order concerning him, and he would be taken out to al-Baqiʿ. So whoever eats them, let him kill [their odour] by cooking." Narrated by Muslim.
