Chapter [On qirān and tamattuʾ]
القرانQirān أفضل[is] better منthan التمتعtamattuʾ والإفراد.and ifrād.
Qirān (combining ḥajj with ʿumrah [in one iḥrām]) is better than tamattuʾ and better than ifrād (ḥajj alone).
وصفته:And its description: أنthat يهِلَّhe enters iḥrām بالعمرةِ[for] ʿumrah والحجِّ[and ḥajj] معاًtogether منfrom الميقات،the mīqāt, فإذا[then when] دَخَلَ[he enters] مكَّةَMakkah بدأَ[he begins] بالعمرة،[with] ʿumrah, ثمّthen بالحجِّ،[with] ḥajj; فإذاwhen رمىhe casts [stones] الجمرة[at] Jamrah يوم[on the] day النحر[of] sacrifice أَراقَ[he pours out / slaughters] دماً[a blood] sacrifice إنif قدر،he is able, وإلاotherwise صامَ[he] fasted ثلاثةَthree أيامdays, آخرهاthe last of them [being] يوم[the] Day عرفة،[of] ʿArafah; وسبعةand seven [days] إذwhen رجع.he returns.
Its description is that one enters consecration [with intention] for ʿumrah and ḥajj together from the mīqāt; when he enters Makkah he begins with ʿumrah, then proceeds to ḥajj; when he stones the Jamrah on the Day of Sacrifice he slaughters blood [owing] if able—otherwise he fasts three days, the last of them [being] the Day of ʿArafah, and seven upon his return.
والتمتعAnd tamattuʾ أفضل[is] better منthan الإفراد،ifrād, وصفته:and its description: أنthat يهِلَّhe enters iḥrām بالعمرةِ[for] ʿumrah منfrom الميقات،the mīqāt, فإذا[then when] دخل[he enters] مكَّةMakkah أدَّى[he completes] العمرة،[the ]ʿumrah, وحَلَّand exits [iḥrām] منها،[from ]it; ثمَّthen يحرمhe consecrates himself بالحجّ[for] ḥajj يوم[on the] Day التروية[of ]Tarwiyah من[while in] الحرم،the ḥaram; ويفعلand he does ما[what] يفعله[does] المفرد،the solitary [pilgrim] وعليهupon him [lies] الدم[the] blood [offering] أوor بدله[its ]substitute, كالقارن.[as for] the one performing qirān.
Tamattuʾ is better than ifrād; its description is that he enters consecration [solely] for ʿumrah from the mīqāt; when he enters Makkah he completes ʿumrah and leaves iḥrām; then on the Day of Tarwiyah he consecrates himself for ḥajj from [within] the ḥaram—and he does whatever the solitary [pilgrim] does; upon him lies the blood [offering] or its substitute, like the pilgrim performing qirān.
