Whoever embraces Islam, regains consciousness, reaches maturity, or a woman becomes pure [from menstruation], while enough of the prayer time remains for the opening takbīr (ḥurūma)—performing it is obligatory on him.

Before puberty, children are to be commanded to pray once they reach the age of seven – both boys and girls. They are to be disciplined for not praying at the age of ten with the hand, not with a stick; gently with them with reprimand according to capacity. They should not be disciplined more than three times with the hand. The discipline is with the hand, because disciplining with a stick is for a crime committed by someone accountable, but there is no crime for children. This disciplining is obligatory.

The obligation of prayer for a menstruating woman after her period ends depends on the duration of her menstruation. If she becomes pure after ten full days of menstruation, she must pray even if only a brief moment remains before the prayer time ends, as her purification is certain. However, if her period ends before the ten days, she is only required to pray if there is enough time left to perform ghusl and say the opening takbīr (taḥrīmah). If there is not sufficient time, she is not obligated to pray, as the cessation of bleeding before ten days may indicate the possibility of menstruation resuming.
