The student also needs strength and knowledge of what increases both it, lifespan, and health so he may devote himself to seeking knowledge — scholars have written whole books on this; I excerpt a little here in brief.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Nothing turns back decree but supplication; nothing lengthens life but dutifulness to parents; and a man may be barred from provision by a sin that befalls him.

This hadith establishes that sin — especially lying, for which there is a specific report — strips away provision. Sleeping through the late morning prayer blocks sustenance; oversleeping breeds poverty, including poverty of knowledge.
Sleeping naked; urinating bare; eating lying on the side; eating reclined on a side; carelessness when food falls; burning onion or garlic skins; sweeping the house at night with a kerchief; leaving rubbish indoors; walking ahead of elders; calling parents by their first names; using any splinter as a toothpick; washing hands with mud or dust; sitting on the threshold; leaning on either door-leaf; performing wuḍūʾ in the privy; sewing a garment while wearing it; drying the face with the sleeve; tolerating spiders indoors; slackness in prayer; rushing out of the mosque after Fajr; dashing early to market but tarrying to return; buying broken bread from beggars; begging; praying evil against parents; failing to cover pots and blowing out lamps with the breath — tradition marks all such habits as inviting poverty.

Likewise poverty: writing with a knotted pen; combing with a broken comb; omitting prayer for one's parents; wrapping the turban while seated; letting the robe trail while standing; stinginess and tight-fistedness; extravagance; sloth, laziness, and indifference to duties.

The Messenger ﷺ said: Draw down provision through charity; rising early brings blessing — increasing every bounty, especially livelihood.
A cheerful disposition opens doors to provision; a bright face and kind speech aid memory and sustenance. From Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī: sweeping the courtyard and rinsing vessels attract wealth.
Strongest magnets for provision: perfecting ṣalāh with awe and khushūʿ, aligning the postures and every obligation, sunna, and adab; Ḍuḥā prayer is famous for this; reciting Sūrat al-Wāqiʿa especially at bedtime, plus al-Mulk, al-Muzzammil, al-Layl and Alam nashraḥ; reaching the mosque before the adhān; constant purity; Sunnah of Fajr and witr at home; no worldly chatter after witr; limited sitting with women except when needed; and no idle talk.

It is said: Whoever busies himself with what does not concern him misses what does. Buzurjmehr said: When you see a man prattle endlessly, know he is touched by madness. ʿAlī, may Allah be pleased with him, said: When intellect matures, speech thins.
The author, may Allah have mercy on him, said: These verses occurred to me on the theme: / When a man's mind ripens, his words shrink — / know the chatterer for a fool. / Speech adorns; silence saves — / if you speak, do not flood. / I never once regretted hush — / but speech I have regretted again and again.

What lengthens life: piety and dutifulness to parents, refraining from harm, honouring elders, and maintaining ties of kinship; and to say morning and evening each day three times: Subḥān Allāhi milʾu l-mīzān, wa muntahā l-ʿilmi, wa mablaġu r-riḍā, wa zinatu l-ʿarsh; Lā ilāha illā Allāhu milʾu l-mīzān, wa muntahā l-ʿilmi wa zinatu l-ʿarsh; Allāhu akbar, milʾu l-mīzān, wa muntahā l-ʿilmi wa mablaġu r-riḍā, wa zinatu l-ʿarsh. Avoid felling moist trees except in necessity; complete wuḍūʾ and pray with reverence; recite Qur'an between Hajj and ʿUmrah; guard health — one should learn some medicine and seek blessing in the prophetic remedies that Imam Abū l-ʿAbbās al-Mustaghfirī compiled in his book *Ṭibb al-Nabī* (upon him blessings and peace); whoever seeks it will find it, for it is well known.
All praise is Allah's upon completion; blessings upon our master Muḥammad, the best of the noble messengers, and upon his family and companions — the guiding Imāms — as eras pass and days succeed, Āmīn.
