Faith in Allah and His attributes — Matn Al-ʿAqīdah al-Ṭaḥāwiyyah

We affirm concerning the tawḥīd of Allah, glorified and exalted Most High, holding as our belief by Allah's grace, Mighty and Majestic, that Allah is One, without partner, and nothing is like Him, and nothing incapacitates Him, and there is no god besides Him

دائم بلا انتهاء

permanent without end

Ruling5

لا تبلغه الأوهام، ولا تدركه الأفهام

imaginings do not reach Him, nor do understandings comprehend Him

Ruling6

قيوم لا ينام

self-subsisting, He does not sleep

Ruling7

خالق بلا حاجة

Creator without need

Ruling8

مميت بلا مخافة

Causer of death without fear

Ruling9

باعث بلا مشقة

Resurrector without difficulty

Ruling10

ما زال بصفاته قديماً قبل خلقه، لم يزدد بكونهم شيئاً لم يكن قبلهم من صفته

He has ever been characterised by His attributes eternally before His creation; He did not gain by their coming into being anything of His attribute that was not before them

Ruling11

وكما كان بصفاته أزلياً، كذلك لا يزال عليها أبدياً

and as He was characterised by His attributes from eternity, so He remains upon them forever

Ruling12

ليس منذ خلق الخلق استفاد اسم ﴿الخالق﴾ ، ولا بإحداث البرية استفاد اسم ﴿الباري﴾

not since creating creation did He acquire the name {the Creator}, nor by originating creation did He acquire the name {the Originator}

Ruling13

له معنى الربوبية ولا مربوب، ومعنى الخالق ولا مخلوق

He has the meaning of lordship without a lorded one, and the meaning of Creator without a created thing

Ruling14

ذلك بأنه على كل شيء قدير

that is because He is over all things All-Powerful

Ruling15

وكل شيء إليه فقير، وكل أمر عليه يسير

and everything is needy to Him, and every matter is easy for Him

Ruling16

ولا يحتاج إلى شيء

and He needs nothing

Ruling17

﴿لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ﴾ (الشورى: ١١) .

{Nothing is like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing} [al-Shūrā: 11]

Ruling18

خلق الخلق بعلمه وقدّر لهم أقداراً

He created creation with His knowledge and decreed for them destinies

Ruling19

وضرب لهم آجالاً

and He set for them terms

Ruling20

لم يخف عليه شيء من أفعاله قبل خلقهم، وعلم ما هم عاملون قبل أن يخلقهم

nothing of their acts was hidden from Him before He created them, and He knew what they would do before He created them

Ruling21

وأمرهم بطاعته ونهاهم عن معصيته

He commanded them to obey Him and forbade them disobedience

Ruling22

وكل يجري بقدرته ومشيئته

and everything occurs by His power and will

Ruling23

ومشيئته تنفذ، لا مشيئة للعباد إلا ما شاء الله لهم ، فما شاء كان وما لم يشأ لم يكن

His will is executed; the servants have no will except what Allah wills for them — what He wills occurs and what He does not will does not occur

Ruling24

ولا راد لقضائه، ولا معقب لحكمه

there is no repeller of His decree and no overrider of His judgement

Ruling25

آمنا بذلك كله وأيقنا أن كلاً من عنده

we believe all of that and are certain that everything is from Him
