The unseen (vision, miʿrāj, ḥawḍ) — Matn Al-ʿAqīdah al-Ṭaḥāwiyyah

Ruling40

(٢٢) ٢٢ - ٢٣) ،

and that vision is real for the people of Paradise without encompassing and without modality, as the Book has stated: {Faces that Day will be radiant, looking toward their Lord} [al-Qiyāmah: 22–23]; its interpretation is according to what Allah Most High intended and knew, and whatever has come in that regard from the authentic ḥadīth of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) is as he said, and its meaning is according to what He intended

Ruling42

Whoever seeks knowledge of what has been barred from him — knowledge of which he has been deprived — and is not content with submission, his understanding veils him; his aim is cut off from pure tawḥīd, clear gnosis, and sound faith

Ruling43

وَلَا يَصِحُّ الْإِيمَانُ بِالرُّؤْيَةِ لِأَهْلِ دَارِ السَّلَامِ لِمَنِ اعْتَبَرَهَا مِنْهُمْ بِوَهْمٍ، أَوْ تَأَوَّلَهَا بِفَهْمٍ، إِذْ كَانَ تَأْوِيلُ الرُّؤْيَةِ وَتَأْوِيلُ كُلِّ مَعْنًى يُضَافُ إِلَى الرُّبُوبِيَّةِ بِتَرْكِ التَّأْوِيلِ وَلُزُومِ التَّسْلِيمِ، وَعَلَيْهِ دِينُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

Faith in the vision is not valid for the people of the Abode of Peace for whoever considers it by fancy or interprets it by intellect, since interpreting the vision and every meaning ascribed to lordship is by abandoning interpretation and adhering to submission — and upon that is the religion of the Muslims

Ruling44

ومن لم يتوَقَّ النفيَ والتشبيهَ زَلَّ، ولم يُصِب التنزيه؛ فَإِنَّ رَبَّنَا جَلَّ وَعَلَا مَوْصُوفٌ بِصِفَاتِ الْوَحْدَانِيَّةِ مَنْعُوتٌ بِنُعُوتِ الْفَرْدَانِيَّةِ لَيْسَ فِي مَعْنَاهُ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْبَرِيَّةِ.

Whoever does not guard himself from negating the Attributes of Allah or likening Allah to something else has strayed and has not correctly understood the transcendence of Allah. For our Lord Almighty is described with the Attributes of Oneness, qualified with the qualities of uniqueness. The created beings do not share with Him any likeness.

Ruling45

وَتَعَالَى عَنِ الْحُدُودِ وَالْغَايَاتِ وَالْأَرْكَانِ وَالْأَعْضَاءِ وَالْأَدَوَاتِ لَا تَحْوِيهِ الْجِهَاتُ السِّتُّ كَسَائِرِ الْمُبْتَدَعَاتِ.

He is Exalted above any limits, ends, supports, limbs, or tools. He is not bound by the six directions like all originated things.

Ruling46

وَالْمِعْرَاجُ حَقٌّ، وَقَدْ أُسْرِيَ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَعُرِجَ بِشَخْصِهِ فِي الْيَقَظَةِ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ ثُمَّ إِلَى حَيْثُ شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْعُلَى، وَأَكْرَمَهُ اللَّهُ بِمَا شَاءَ وَأَوْحَى إِلَيْهِ مَا أَوْحَى ﴿مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَى﴾

The Miʿrāj is real. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was taken by night, and ascended in wakefulness to heaven then to whatever high place Allah willed. Allah honoured him as He willed and revealed to him what He revealed: {The heart did not deny what it saw}

Ruling47

وَالْحَوْضُ الَّذِي أَكْرَمَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى بِهِ غِيَاثًا لِأُمَّتِهِ حَقٌّ، وَالشَّفَاعَةُ الَّتِي ادَّخَرَهَا لَهُمْ حَقٌّ كَمَا رُوِيَ فِي الْأَخْبَارِ، وَالْمِيثَاقُ الَّذِي أَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى مِنْ آدَمَ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ حَقٌّ

The ḥawḍ with which Allah Most High honoured him as relief for his community is real; the intercession He stored up for them is real as reported in the accounts; and the covenant Allah Most High took from Adam and his offspring is real
